World Showdown of Esports: Betting, Odds, Analysis

Finally, the World Showdown of Esports betting odds are in, and it’s a tight race between all of the eight teams participating in the tournament.

According to the oddsmakers at ArcaneBet, Team Serenity top the World Showdown of Esports betting odds at 4.50 odds. However, they are not heavy favourites. Far from it, actually. Alliance are very close at 5.00 odds., followed by compLexity Gaming and JStorm at 6.00 odds each, respectively, to round out the top 4.

Finally, it’s a three-way tie at 9.00 odds for painX, The Final Tribe, ROONS and finally, Happy Guys are dead last at 13.00 odds to win.

While unusual, this kind of close outright odds shouldn’t come off as a surprise. All teams in the tournament are basically unproven commodities. There are no legitimate contenders playing in this tournament. Team Serenity come closest, and they aren’t even a Top 5 team in China, let alone the rest of the world.

Given the relatively even playing field, it’ll be interesting to see which of these up-and-coming teams will come up big and stand out in Las Vegas to lay claim to the $50,000 cash prize as we near the first two official tournaments of the 2018-19 Dota Pro Circuit.

Reshuffled and retooled for the 2018-19 Dota Pro Circuit, the latest compLexity Gaming squad has tremendous potential to be one of the best teams in North America. (CompLexity Gaming)

compLexity Gaming and JStorm edging out The Final Tribe seems like a stretch. Although The Final Tribe are by no means a proven team, they have been playing together for quite some time already. They also have had relatively good showings in the European Qualifiers, which is arguably the most competitive region in the world right now.

But, then again, we shouldn’t be quick to underestimate compLexity Gaming. Their new captain, Jacky ‘EternaLEnVy‘ Mao, has done well for himself in his new role as a position five support. Now free to experiment and direct all he wants without being as big of a burden to his team whenever his risky maneuvers don’t pay off, he has managed to usher in some pretty unconventional yet effective picks into the current meta, including the position five Axe.

Regardless of whether they win or not, compLexity Gaming are, by far, the must-watch team of the tournament.

Final Thoughts

The World Showdown of Esports’ first venture into Dota 2 will barely register in the casual fan’s mind. There’s no Tier 1 team present, and there isn’t a live audience either. However, for the participating teams, a win is a win. Even though it may come against arguably lesser competition, they’ll take what they can get as the action finally ramps up for the 2018-19 Dota Pro Circuit.
