Virtus.Pro are the first team this 2017-18 Pro Circuit to secure their spot at the Dota 2 The International 2018 later in August this year. The CIS powerhouse did so after securing a Top 2 spot at the still-ongoing Bucharest Major.
Dota 2 The International 2018’s First Participants
According to liquipedia.net, a team only needs at least 5,959 Qualifying Points to guarantee a direct invite to the Dota 2 The International 2018.
As of the moment of writing, Virtus.Pro already have secured at least 6,297 Qualifying Points for the season. Mathemathically, this means that they’re already ensured a spot at Dota 2’s biggest annual tournament. This is even if, for whatever reason, they choose not to play for the remainder of the season.
Team Liquid and Team Secret are the next two Dota 2 teams up for a direct invite to TI8. These two teams each have earned 4,635 and 4,260 Qualifying Points respectively. Meanwhile, the rest are still ways away. Although with more than half of the Qualifying Points remaining, and at least 5 Majors to go, other teams still have a chance to catch up and boost their standings in the season leaderboards.

Virtus.Pro owe a huge chunk of their Qualifying Points to their two Major wins at ESL One Hamburg and ESL One Katowice. They also have a chance to add even more points to their name as they take on VGJ.Thunder in the Grand Finals of the Bucharest Major tomorrow. Should they win, Virtus.Pro will join their former rivals OG as the only Dota 2 teams with at least three Major titles and the only ones to have gone back-to-back.
