TI8 Regional Qualifier (NA/SEA/EU) Day 2: Odds, Analysis, Picks

Day 2 of the TI8 regional qualifier is about to start and as expected, it didn’t take long for the favourites to start showing their dominance.

Even though everything goes in a best-of-one, it’s clear that the favourites are taking the TI8 regional qualifier seriously, as they should. A slot at TI8 is big. For the smaller teams, even a last-place finish will net them a sizable amount of money. At TI7, the last-place teams, Fnatic and Hellraisers, each took home $61,720 USD. More importantly, however, the prestige and experience that comes with playing on Dota 2’s biggest stage is something that money can’t buy.

Having said that, after feeling each other out in Day 1, expect the action to ramp up on the second day of the TI8 regional qualifier with some of the teams looking at the possibility of getting eliminated.

Battle Arena Elites vs Entity Gaming

TI8 Regional Qualifier

Former Fnatic Dota 2 member Khoo ‘Ohaiyo’ Chong Xin headline a list of known SEA players looking to make it to TI8 playing under the Battle Arena Elites banner. (Fnatic)

Match Schedule: June 23, 2018 (Saturday 16:00 SGT)

At first glance and on paper, these are two evenly matched teams made up of players who are looking to capitalize on a shot at making it to TI. Both have also done relatively well against the lesser teams in the pool. However, the key difference between the two is that Battle Arena Elites actually won against a notable team earlier in Day 1 after beating TNC Pro Team in a best-of-one.

Betting: Battle Arena Elites to win at 2.13 odds (GGbet)

VGJ.Storm vs CompLexity Gaming

TI8 Regional Qualifier

The retooled CompLexity Gaming roster with David “Moonmeander” Tan and Adam “343” Shah have enough of a dark horse feel to it to possibly make it to TI8 this year. (CompLexity Gaming)

Match Schedule: June 24, 2018 (Sunday 01:00 SGT)

Normally, we’d say that VGJ.Storm would have this game in the bag. However, there are a couple of reasons to believe that things aren’t that simple. Like, for example, how opposing teams have figured out that the best way to beat VGJ.Storm is to put them in a position where only one player, like Roman ‘Resolut1on‘ Fominok, has to carry the entire team. Granted, that’s not an easy feat. However, when it comes to teams who have the necessary talent to do it, especially in a best-of-one, the new-look compLexity Gaming squad are one of them.

Betting: CompLexity Gaming to win at 3 odds (GGbet)

Immortals vs OpTic Gaming

TI8 Regional Qualifier

Look to OpTic Gaming to race ahead of the other squads and take top seed at the TI8 regional qualifier for North America. (OpTic Gaming)

Match Schedule: June 24, 2018 (Sunday 07:00 SGT)

OpTic Gaming will want to win as many games as they can to avoid having to go through the playoffs of the TI8 regional qualifier for North America. Not that they probably won’t make win if they had to do so, but why take the risk, right?

Immortals may have a puncher’s chance of taking a game off of OpTic Gaming and pulling off an upset to take one of the three TI slots given to North America this year. However, in this particular matchup, we’re leaning towards #thegreenwall more just because they have a lot more riding on a win here.

Betting: OpTic Gaming to win at 1.4 odds (GGbet)
