The Chongqing Major Main Event Day 1: Betting Odds, Tips, Predictions - Esportsranks
The Chongqing Major Main Event Day 1: Betting Odds, Tips, Predictions

Day 1 of the Chongqing Major main event will see 6 teams take center stage at the BLOOMAGE Cultural and Sports Center, with a potential Grand Finals berth, as well as their very tournament lives, on the line.

And then there were eight.

Sixteen teams entered Chongqing with the hopes of taking home the Chongqing Major trophy, along with the $500,000 USD and 4,950 DPC points that come along with it. But, after nearly a week of grueling back-to-back action, only half of the pool remains.

With the teams receiving a one-day break to help give the organizers time to prepare the stadium at the BLOOMAGE Cultural and Sports Center, they have earned themselves a temporary respite. Teams such as Team Liquid and Virtus.Pro could use this time to rest up and heal, with their players, Chu ‘shadow‘ Zeyu and Alexei ‘Solo‘ Berezin, respectively, both having fallen ill in the middle of the tournament. But, then again, there’ll likely be no rest for the wicked at this tournament.

As the caliber of competition rises up the fewer teams there are remaining, all of the teams who have managed to made it this far are likely busy doing some research and last-minute adjustments to give themselves a better chance of winning it all.

With that said, let us not delay any further and get right on to our picks for the Chongqing Major Main Event Day 1.

The Chongqing Major Main Event Day 1 Predictions

Evil Geniuses vs Vici Gaming

The Chongqing Major Main Event

Up against a worthy opponent in Ori, expect SumaiL to rise to the challenge and put up a standout performance. (StarLadder Dota 2)

Match Schedule: January 25, 2018 (1200H SGT)

Did you know that this is the first time that these two teams will ever meet in an official tournament? Ever? Records from Dotabuff show that these two powerhouses have never faced off before. At least, outside of scrims that is.

Not that it would prove any useful, though, because Vici Gaming are arguably one of the most inconsistent Dota 2 teams in the world. One moment, they look like they can beat everybody. The next moment, they’re losing to a lower-ranked team, just like what happened when they dropped a game to Chaos Esports Club, extending what should have been a quick series.

It’s clear now that the best way to beat Vici Gaming is to limit the impact of their cores, especially Zeng ‘Ori‘ Jiaoyang. That’s easier said than done. Although, I have a feeling that Sumail Syed ‘SumaiL‘ Hassan is up for the task.

With Evil Geniuses stacked with just as much talent as Vici Gaming are at just about every position and with more collective experience to boot, expect the boys in blue to walk away as the winners in their matchup tomorrow.

Betting: Evil Geniuses to win against Vici Gaming at 1.68 odds. (10bet)

Fnatic vs Team Liquid

The Chongqing Major Main Event

Featuring an all-star cast of some of the best that Southeast Asia has to offer, Fnatic are one breakthrough run away from establishing themselves as a top-tier team. (Fnatic)

Match Schedule: January 25, 2018 (1530H SGT)

The deeper Team Liquid go in this tournament, the more evident it is that they’re playing with a stand-in. If not for monster games from their two other cores, which helped mask the team’s relative lack of coordination in team fights in their series against TNC Predator, Team Liquid would already be headed home by now.

While it’s always a treat watching Ivan Borislavov ‘MinD_ContRoL‘ Ivanov and Lasse Aukusti ‘MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen play out of their minds, we can’t exactly expect them to have such performances in every game. But, alas, that’s what Team Liquid need if they are to keep on advancing.

Up against a more-disciplined Fnatic squad, who seem to have finally found their stride, expecting both MATUMBAMAN and MinD_ContRoL to play as well as they did against TNC Predator is pushing it, especially when Fnatic have monsters of their own.

Betting: Fnatic to win against Team Liquid at 2.40 odds. (10bet)

Team Secret vs Virtus.Pro

The Chongqing Major Main Event

MidOne have yet to have one of his signature performances this tournament, which suggests that it could be coming sooner rather than later. (Team Secret)

Match Schedule: January 25, 2018 (1900H SGT)

Doubting Team Secret have rarely proven fruitful so far. It seems that, after experimenting during the group stages, Clement ‘Puppey‘ Ivanov is more willing to play more to the meta now. At least, by their usual standards.

With both newcomers, Michal ‘Nisha‘ Jankowski and Ludwig ‘zai’ Wåhlberg, playing as well as they have been, not to mention, Yeik ‘MidOne‘ Nai Zheng bound to come up with a big performance soon, Virtus.Pro should stand little chance in the upper bracket finals tomorrow,

Betting: Team Secret to win against Virtus.Pro at 1.80 odds. (10bet)
