Team Spirit Emerge Victorious at the Galaxy Battles CIS Qualifier

Team Spirit make the steep climb all the way up from the double-elimination Stage 1 portion of the Galaxy Battles CIS Qualifier to taking down Natus Vincere and Team Empire in the single-elimination Stage 2 to join Virtus Pro as the two teams who will go on to represent CIS at the third Major of the season.

This is the first time that Team Spirit have secured a Pro Circuit Qualifier this year. They now join to make an already stacked field composed of Vega Squadron, Virtus Pro, Team Empire and Natus Vincere, just to name a few, even more competitive.

Galaxy Battles CIS Qualifier – Polar is Back

IlyaIllidan‘ Pivcaev, who is currently playing as a stand-in for Team Spiritcouldn’t have said it any better. Reunited with his former ASUS Polar teammates, Alexander ‘DKPhobos‘ Kucheria and Artem ‘fng‘ Barshak, Team Spirit played like a team looking to make things even more interesting at the CIS region.

A Stage 1 invite at the Galaxy Battles CIS Qualifier, Team Spirit recovered from an earlier loss to Effect to move on to Stage 2 only to face off against the recently crowned Adrenaline Cyber League Champions, Natus VincereBut, instead of looking like the underdogs of the matchup, they flipped the script on Danil ‘Dendi’ Ishutin and his team. They struck first in a Game 1 that lasted for over an hour. They then followed it up with a quick 29-minute win in Game 2, preventing Natus Vincere from cracking double-digits in kills.

The story was pretty much the same against Team EmpireAlthough it was the reverse this time around. Game 1 was far from a close game. Albeit, Team Empire put up more of a fight than Natus Vincere did in their second game against Team Spirit. Meanwhile, Game 2 also went late, but didn’t make it past the hour mark; Team Empire very nearly forced a Game 3 on many occasions. Unfortunately, they just couldn’t muster up enough firepower to take down Team Spirit’s tanky melee core trio of Lifestealer, Doom, and Dragon Knight.

After the win, Illidan decided to put a bit more salt on Team Empire’s proverbial wound.

Given the chemistry Illidan showed with the rest of Team Spirit and the fact that the Galaxy Battles Major is still more than a month away, expect Team Spirit to continue fielding the same lineup with Illidan in it for the foreseeable future.
