Team Serenity Complete Upset Run at TI8 China Qualifiers

Team Serenity will take part in Dota 2’s biggest annual event this August after emerging victorious at the TI8 China Qualifiers.

The regional favourites LGD.ForeverYoung and Invictus Gaming could do nothing to spot Team Serenity. The former would get swept during the opening rounds of the playoffs. Meanwhile, the latter would manage to take Game 1 before dropping Games 2 and 3.

LGD.ForeverYoung and Invictus Gaming now face a serious dilemma; both are in serious danger of missing TI after making deep runs last year.

A team made up of relative unknowns, no one thought highly of Team Serenity heading into the regional qualifiers. Most had their eyes set on either LGD.ForeverYoung or Invictus Gaming, with EHOME, coached by Zhang ‘xiao8‘ Ning, a dark horse pick.

At the end of it all, however, EHOME couldn’t even make it out of the open qualifiers.

During the best-of-one round-robin group stage, Team Serenity would with a 5-2 record. Their only losses came at the hands of Keen Gaming, another dark-horse pick, and ForTheDream, a fellow open qualifier team that came out of nowhere to take the top seed.

Two players stood out the most for Team Serenity all throughout the regional qualifiers; their midlaner Zhang ‘Zyd‘ Quanda and their offlaner Zhang ‘XinQ‘ Zixing. The two would finish their run with a KDA of 7.37 and 6.04 respectively, tops at the region.

Now that they have already qualified, Team Serenity can start preparing for The International 2018.

Considering the relatively stacked field and their inexperience, Team Serenity will need every bit of preparation if they are to continue pulling off upsets in August.
