Team Secret Remain Unsolved, Sweep PGL EU Qualifiers

Team Secret give mouseports a sound beating in the Grand Finals of the PGL EU Qualifiers to secure their second qualifier to start the season.

PGL EU Qualifiers Recap

After finishing on top of their respective groups with relative ease, it certainly seemed like it would be OG and Team Secret fighting for a slot in Bucharest.

Mouz, though, had other plans in mind.

Nearly one year ago in the Grand of the Boston Major, OG denied mouz a chance to punctuate their cinderella run with a Major win by taking them down 3-1 and successfully defending their Eaglesong trophy.

This time, mouz were the ones to play spoilers as they outexecuted OG late in the game to take the series 2-1. Unfortunately, much like back then, mouz were unable to completely seal the deal.

Puppey’s preference for running different lineups was on full display as only Yei ‘MidOne’ Nai Zheng played the same hero for Team Secret in the berth-clinching series. But, more than the versatility of their players, Puppey and co were simply the better and more cohesive team in a 2-0 rout that never seemed close right from the start.

An Ace in the Hole

Always the perennial contenders but very rarely the winners, many expected Team Secret to struggle this early in the season with a new roster — they were also playing with a stand-in for some time — and the fact that OG now stood in their way in the qualifiers.

Instead, the latest iteration of Team Secret have yet to drop a series.

Adrian ‘Fata’ Trinks’ transition to the offlane seems to have only done him good. Although Team Secret’s other latest addition seems to have had a more profound impact on the team.

Marcus ‘Ace’ Hoelgaard and his wide hero pool seem to fit Team Secret like a glove; he has played 15 different heroes in 21 games. And, you’d best bet that Clement ‘Puppey’ Ivanov is loving what his newest teammate has brought to the proverbial table.

Team Secret have now secured a slot in 3 out of the first 5 LAN tournaments this season with a chance to make it 5 out of 5.

Can Team Secret make it 3 out of 3 tomorrow in the Grand Finals of the Starladder EU Qualifiers against OG? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
