The EU LCS 2018 Week 9 is finally here, which means it’s only a matter of time before the playoffs start. And, we’re not exactly prepared for it just yet. Not one bit.
From what we’ve learned from the EU LCS Week 1 to EU LCS 2018 Week 9, we don’t know exactly who’s going to make it to the playoffs just yet. In fact, only two are confirmed, which means that the coming weekend will be huge for the teams who are vying for a spot in the playoffs.
It should go without saying that the EU LCS 2018 Week 9 of the 2018 Spring Split will be an absolute bloodbath.
Splyce, Fnatic Confirmed for Playoffs
LAST WEEK OF THE REGULAR SEASON ALREADY! Wtf?
Only FNC and SPY are locked in play-off, EVERYONE ELSE can still make it (or drop out :o) That means, VIT, G2 and MSF technically can miss play-offs #Everygamematters #EULCS

That means that Splyce and Fnatic fans can rest easy heading into the EU LCS 2018 Week 9. There aren’t any real consequences for either of these teams in the next week, although we’re still expecting great plays from them – especially from Fnatic. One thing that Splyce and Fnatic both have in common is that they weren’t doing too well for most of the season. Then, they suddenly pulled off a series of spectacular and much-needed wins, getting them over the top.

Lights Out for UOL and H2K
There’s always next season if the Unicorns still want to head over to worlds. For now, there’s not much hope for them at all. There needs to be a huge string of sheer luck for them to somehow make it through, and the odds are stacked heavily against them. For now, their main aim should be to somehow avoid the relegation rounds, although it’s likely they’ll have to face them.
That’s because UOL are up against two of Europe’s most formidable teams this week: Misfits and G2 Esports. From what we’ve observed heading into the EU LCS 2018 Week 9 of the 2018 Spring Split, UOL have no chance whatsoever of taking a win against either of these teams.
H2K, on the other hand, might be able to win some of the matchups they’re being dealt this week, but it still won’t make much of a difference in the long run. They’re not making it past the first round-robin, and we’ll likely see them next season.
EU LCS 2018 Week 9 Playoff-Bound Picks
There are some teams that we think will easily manage this team and will get into the playoffs round without a doubt. We’ll look into why these teams have what it takes, and why their peers can’t match up to them.
Of the 3 teams that we’ve chosen, Vitality is the most unpredictable. The reason behind this is the matchups they’ve been dealt this week. They might go all guns blazing into the next round, or fall flat. However, even if they can’t take a single win this week, they’ll still be tied for a place in the playoffs with another team sharing their score. This means that they’re pretty hard to get rid off at this point.

Gilius hasn’t looked back since making this tweet
Overall, Vitality have been playing better ever since their losing streak ended. The entire team, Gilius specifically, has been extremely pumped, and they seem pretty confident about moving into the playoffs. We share this confidence in them and think they’ll have a good week, winning either against Splyce or G2, if not both.
2. G2 Esports
Last LCS week is going to be so insane. I can't wait to see all those crazy ties

This team should make it to the playoffs without any difficulty unless the Unicorns of Love sprout wings and Vitality decide to have their way with them in the same week. The chances of that happening are next to none, and we’re going to put our faith in G2’s dramatic rise during the season.
They messed up last week, but we’re going to look at that as an unfortunate coincidence, and we think that they’ll have some better games to show this week.
Misfits have played in a way that didn’t live up to the standards that we’d started holding them to. However, this week might just be their lucky break. Their matchups aren’t against any high tier team. In fact, one of them is against Unicorns of Love. Misfits have a great chance to just step up, win both their games and head on over to the playoffs with the rest of the stars.
Fans will be able to forget whatever happened during the first round, and Misfits will have yet another chance to win the season outright.
With one week of games left, each of the bottom six teams can still make it to Playoffs! Considering the different strengths of schedule, who do you think will make it? #EULCS pic.twitter.com/Gue2fTntLy

What about the Giants?
We think that the Giants will have a really hard time making it to the playoffs stage. Regardless of the fact that they have a great track record, the matchups they have for this week might be too hard for them to deal with. If they do somehow manage to make it through, it’s anticipated that they might have to face off against another team also fighting for the last spot.
The Last Spot Is Up For Grabs
It’s almost impossible to tell at this point, but the coming two days should clear it all out. For now, ROCCAT, Schalke 04 and Giants are going to have to commit with everything they have. None of them has straightforward matchups, which means the first team to make a miracle happen will get to represent themselves in the playoffs.
Must Watch Matches of EU LCS 2018 Week 9
Splyce vs. Vitality
Prediction: Vitality Win
Odds via GGbet: 1.72 (Splyce) – 2 (Vitality)
This will be the first challenge that Vitality will have to overcome if they want to have a smooth transition into the playoffs. It’s not something that can’t be done – Vitality have shown themselves time and again to be a team that can take anyone down on a whim.
All they have to do is keep their confidence levels up, and have the right plan in addition to a good draft phase. That may sound like a lot, but shouldn’t be too difficult to concoct together. We think that Vitality will be taking this win. Splyce made amazing plays, but they didn’t have a solid presence in the region like Vitality did.
Giants vs. Fnatic
Prediction: Fnatic Win
Odds via GGbet: 2.98 (Giants) – 1.34 (Fnatic)
As much as Giants would love to win this game, we’re going to hand it over to Fnatic. Giants have what it takes to surprise their opponents and take them down, but Fnatic have had an entire season to observe this team.
On the other hand, Fnatic hold the ability to come up with impromptu strategies that can absolutely devastate their enemies. Rekkles has been a tireless carry and has performed his role of shot-caller without disappointing. It won’t come as a surprise to us if Fnatic were to win this round with ease.
G2 Esports vs. Vitality
Prediction: G2 Esports Win
Odds via GGbet: 1.6 (G2 Esports) – 2.19 (Vitality)
The hardest two positions for me to decide on for EU All-Pro voting is Jungle and Support. A lot of good candidates. Jankos/Xerxe my front-runners for jungle
— Martin Lynge (@RiotDeficio) March 14, 2018
Our final pick will be pretty interesting. Vitality and G2 Esports share the same spot on the ladder as of now, and the first day of Week 9 will decide which one of the is ahead if any. The jungler’s advantage goes to G2 Esports in this matchup, and so does the bot lane advantage. G2 simply feels like a more coordinated team. While Vitality have their strengths, they might not be able to hold out against G2 Esports.
Regardless of which teams make it past this weekend, we all have had an amazing 9 weeks of the 2018 split. It all comes down to which teams can keep their performance at its peak once the quarterfinals start.
