The semifinals went exactly as we predicted, and now SK Gaming will face off against their nemesis of this year, Cloud9. Oddly enough, Cloud9 had no easy battle against Swole Patrol. Cloud9’s semifinal matches against them were a best of three, and Cache was the first map played. Cloud9 dominated the first half by winning ten rounds as terrorists. But they were not as effective as counter terrorists in the second half, and Swole Patrol took seven rounds in the second half.
In the end, Cloud9 won the match, but by a mere four rounds, which, considering the supposed difference in skill quotients between these two teams, is positively dismal. In the next match, Mirage, Cloud9 came in with the gloves off, battering Swole into submission. The second match ended in nineteen rounds, with Swole Patrol winning just five rounds. Swole have nevertheless done reasonably well, even as Cloud9 stepped over them and into the Finals.
SK Gaming didn’t even need to enter battle to get to the Finals
There have been rather too many forfeited matches in this event, and this was one such another. French Canadians decided to forfeit their semifinal match against SK Gaming, as all their players could not be available for the best of three. This sometimes does happen in an online match, but it was still unfortunate to see the match taken without a fight. We don’t know where French Canadians will go from here, or if we will ever see the team again, since they already had a disintegrating roster.
However SK Gaming have a lot of scores to settle with Cloud9 this year, and this Finals match offers them the chance to do just that. There’s nothing SK Gaming would like better in this place and this time than grinding Cloud9 down into the dirt in a Finals match. And they have their wish. You know the saying – ‘Be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it.’ Well folks, without any more ado, we give you…
Cloud9 Vs SK Gaming
This is certainly SK Gaming’s grudge match against Cloud9, since they went down in the dust before them in the ELEAGUE Major in Boston this year, after they did so well over the last quarter of the last year. One might even say that Cloud9 have been a sort of jinx to SK Gaming, preventing them from starting out the new year with a bang. They lost again to Cloud9 right here at the WESG, in the first matches of day one, and even more badly than before.
Just how badly was that?
To cut a long story short, SK Gaming won just two rounds in the entire match. Now these rival teams have the opportunity to face each other in another best of three. With both the teams being in North America, there will be no lag or server issues, and excellent pings.
While Cloud9 are the favorites to win this match, in reality, both teams are on par, and the match could go either way if SK Gaming really get their act together. We’d suggest that you put your money on the next match for today, where French Canadians will battle Swole Patrol for third place.
Swole Patrol Vs French Canadians – A Sure win
If French Canadians don’t forfeit this match, they are sure to win it. French Canadians defeated Swole Patrol by fifteen rounds on day one. Swole Patrol have only won matches against Mythic and subtLe, the lowest-rated teams at this event. French Canadians can easily take third place at this event, with the odds on them running at 1.25. This is a sure win, so bet high and rake in the winnings.
