Riot Demands Changes Following Echo Fox Controversy

The Echo Fox controversy has yet to find a resolution, but, with Riot Games stepping in, we might just see what’s going to happen to all the parties involved soon enough.

In a Twitter post published on Wednesday, the developers of League of Legends finally issued a statement following the conclusion of their initial investigation of the Echo Fox controversy. For those not in the know, the controversy comes after news of alleged racist and threatening behavior from a minority investor of Echo Fox, one of the teams participating in the newly-rebranded League of Legends Championship Series, emerged.

LCS commissioner Chris Greeley said in the statement:

“Hate speech, threats, and bigotry have no place in the LCS. We have directed Echo Fox to take appropriate corrective action within 60 days.”

Echo Fox founder and former NBA player Rick Fox was the first to shed some light regarding the whole issue.

According to a report by Dexerto’s Richard Lewis in late April, Rick Fox was set to severe all ties with the organization. This was after an unnamed shareholder used the “n-word” to describe former CEO of Echo Fox and Head Custodian of Twin Galaxies, Jace Hall. However, Rick Fox has since stated that his relationship with Echo Fox remains amendable, provided that the organization lets go of the shareholder in question.

How Will the Echo Fox Controversy Conclude?

At this point, it’s hard to tell what will come about regarding the Echo Fox controversy. However, now that Riot Games have stepped in, we’ll most likely see everything come to a head in the next couple of weeks.

As for Rick Fox, he is a staunch supporter of the esports scene. He was one of the first big-name personalities to jump into the industry when it was arguably still in its infancy. He bought and rebranded Echo Fox back in December 2015, turning it into what it is today. Now, Echo Fix has become a mainstay in multiple esports titles. This includes League of Legends, Fortnite, and Super Smart Bros.

Losing Rick Fox definitely is a huge blow to Echo Fox, especially if their relationship ends on a sour note.

Either way, Echo Fox will need to make a decision soon. Otherwise, Riot Games might have to take more drastic measures.
