PVP Championships 2018 Semifinals: Odds, Analyses, Predictions

The PVP Championships 2018 Semifinals will feature two best-of-three matchups between Team Secret and PSG.LGD, as well as Fnatic and Team Admiral, to kick off the single-elimination bracket main event.

Tomorrow’s matchups at the PVP Championships 2018 Semifinals are essentially a blank slate. Literally, none of these teams has any kind of history for us to dig.

After all, we’re basically seeing a new look for all of the teams left in the tournament. Of the four, only PSG.LGD retained their lineup from last season, and they’re not playing exactly the same way. Offlaner Yang ‘Chalice‘ Shenyi is currently drafting for the team in place of coach Yao ‘QQQ‘ Yi, who’s out for a vacation.

With the season being new and this being the first notable LAN tournament we’ve had since TI8 ended, we don’t exactly have a clear focus on which teams are at the top or at the bottom just yet. However, that won’t stop us from trying to predict which one will come out on top.

Below is a look at tomorrow’s matchups at the PVP Championships 2018 Semifinals.

PVP Championships 2018 Semifinals

Fnatic vs Team Admiral

PVP Championships 2018 Semifinals

New to the captain role, Anucha ‘Jabz’ Jirawong has, so far, been great at taking advantages of all the cheese heroes that Fnatic have at their disposal. (PVP Esports)

Match Schedule: October 6, 2018 – 16:00 (UTC+8)

A team that’s slowly been making waves at the SEA region, Team Admiral are not as big of underdogs as people think they are. Though a Tier-2 team at best, their potential to pull off upsets can’t simply just be underestimated.

Unfortunately, the cheese potential with Fnatic is all too real.

With the team unafraid of busting a Broodmother pick for Daryl Koh ‘iceiceice‘ Pei Xiang and the fact that they have a treasure trove of cheese picks with both iceiceice and Abed Azel ‘Abed‘ Yusop on the roster, seeing them lose against lesser teams, especially after the kind of showing they have had so far throughout this early season, is kind of hard to see at this point.

Betting: Fnatic to win at 1.164 odds. (Pinnacle)

Team Secret vs PSG.LGD

PVP Championships 2018 Semifinals

Ludwig ‘zai’ Wåhlberg has been absolutely phenomenal in the offlane in his return on Team Secret. (PVP Esports)

Match Schedule: October 6, 2018 – 19:45 (UTC+8)

The odds-on favourite to win the tournament, Team Secret looked quite sloppy against Fnatic early on in the tournament, despite playing a normalish draft. At least, when you compare their draft in that particular game to the more outrageous hero lineups Clement ‘Puppey‘ Ivanov have fielded out in the past.

Of course, they looked significantly better against Signify, but, it’s worth wondering whether much of the result is on the all-Indian team being the heavy underdogs in that particular matchup or just Team Secret finally having warmed up.

We all know what Team Secret are capable of when they’re playing at their best. We also know that they’re arguably better at every position now than when they placed 4th at TI8. Unfortunately, we also know that this team is at their best when they’re experimental and stubbornly play high-risk, low-reward combinations, just for the sake of them being able to do so.

Up against PSG.LGD, that kind of style just won’t fly. But, then again, it is Chalice that’s drafting for PSG.LGD, and as a result, the team isn’t looking as crisp as they did when QQQ was in charge of the team’s drafts.

With the element of surprise in favour of Team Secret, we’re inclined to go with the Puppey-led squad in tomorrow’s matchup.

Betting: Team Secret to win at 2.550 odds. (Pinnacle)
