PVP Championships 2018 Grand Finals: Odds, Analyses, Preview

Perhaps to nobody’s surprise, it’s Team Secret and Fnatic going toe-to-toe in the PVP Championships 2018 Grand Finals.

Heading into the tournament, Team Secret were the heavy favourites to win it all, and save for a small stumble against Fnatic early on in the tournament, they have certainly looked the part. Case in point, PSG.LGD looked like fish out of water in their matchup in the semifinals against Team Secret.

Clement ‘Puppey‘ Ivanov was his usual cheeky self, drafting an entirely different lineup in both games. But, instead of his experiment falling flat on its face, it instead worked towards their favour, as throwing different looks at PSG.LGD seemed to throw them off their game. When it was all said and done, PSG.LGD couldn’t even hit double digits in their total number of kills for the entire series, with each game ending in quick fashion in favor of Team Secret.

Although Fnatic were equally impressive in their matchup against Team Admiral, it’s clear that they face a tall task ahead of the tomorrow in the PVP Championships 2018 Grand Finals.

Winning the PVP Esports Championship may not seem like much, but it can go a long way in boosting Team Secret’s confidence for the many tournaments ahead. (PVP Esports)

Match Schedule: October 7, 2018 (16:00 — UTC +8)

Team Secret are huge favourites at 1.49 odds (bet $100 to win $149) at sportsbooks monitored by GGbet to win their first LAN of the season. Fnatic, on the other hand, are the underdogs at 2.48 odds (bet $100 to win $248).

If you’re hesitant to risk on such a low return, you can set the Total Maps to under 3.5 at 3.29 odds. However, that is a very big leap. As dominant as Team Secret have been, we can’t simply just dismiss the possibility of Fnatic cheesing at least just one game, especially given how liberally they have been using Broodmother throughout the entire tournament.

Having said that, a -1.5 Map Handicap for Team Secret at 2.15 odds is safer and worth more, compared to setting the Total Maps to over 3.5 at just 1.3 odds. Of course, you can also set it the Total Maps to go over 4.5 at 2.52, which should net you some nice returns, but given how dominant Team Secret have played so far and how they’re probably raring to avenge their earlier loss against Fnatic, expecting a five-game series tomorrow seems foolish at best.

Ultimately, we’re going all-in on Team Secret here. They’re simply the better team, with a more proven captain who simply just knows what it takes to win when it counts the most.

Final Thoughts

Whoever ends up winning the PVP Championships 2018 Grand Finals tomorrow will likely be the team who will kick off the season on a good note.

Given how the patch looks like it’s going to last for quite a while, the team who has the better grasp of the meta will not have a problem performing just as well in the tournaments to come. For Team Secret, that means the possibility of winning 2 straight LAN tournaments to open up the season as they’re set to play at ESL One Hamburg 2018 last this month.

Either way, tomorrow’s series should be fun to watch, regardless of the results.
