October 7 Competitive Dota 2 Matches Betting Analysis

The DreamLeague China Qualifier will feature 4 of the top Dota 2 teams in China duking it out for a chance to play in the 2nd Major of the season in December.

Newbee and Vici Gaming will kick off the event, with a matchup between the LGD Gaming teams following soon after. To end the day, the losing teams in both matchups will fight for their tournament lives in the lower brackets.

With that said, here are our betting predictions and analysis for the matches slated for October 7.

Newbee vs Vici Gaming

Newbee vs Vici Gaming is the highlight of the day; a matchup between two teams who are right up there in the conversation of who is the best Dota 2 team in China.

Newbee has the upper hand by virtue of finishing as runner-ups in The International 7. However, Vici Gaming is a legitimate threat, as they have one of the most stacked rosters in the region and have the results to show for it as well.

Rust is an important factor here. Newbee haven’t played that many official games since losing to Team Liquid in the Grand Finals of The International 7. And even though teams in China are notorious for scrimmaging and practicing a lot, in addition to playing in local tournaments, there’s a huge difference in how much more competitive official matches are compared to scrims.

Right now, betting odds favour a 2-0 sweep for Newbee at 13/8 (bet365) but betting on Vici Gaming to take the series 2-1 is worth considering at a more favourable 10/3 compared to Newbee going 2-1 at 13/5.

If you’re thinking of betting big on rust being that big of a factor, Vici Gaming are at a 4/1 odds to take Newbee 2-0.

LGD vs LFY

A battle between sister teams, LGD Gaming holds a 2-1 series advantage over LFY so far this season, which all went down to a third and deciding game. Also, if it holds any significance, LFY are the only team — except Newbee, who’s received a direct invite to just about every tournament — to have yet to qualify for a tournament.

Either way, this is as close as a matchup can get, with a lot of history, both in officials and scrims, between these two teams.

The betting odds seem to agree on just how close this matchup is to call; LGD Gaming is at 12/5 to go 2-0 and 2-1, while LFY is at 11/5.

Given the history between both teams (no sweeps so far), betting on LGD Gaming to go 2-1 for a slightly higher payout is pretty self-explanatory.
