Newbee Wins Galaxy Battles 2017

Newbee takes down Planet Odd once again, this time via a 3-0 sweep in the Grand Finals of Galaxy Battles 2017 to take home their second consecutive LAN title.

TI7 Invite Secured

Thanks to their Galaxy Battles 2017 win, Newbee have further solidified their place in our Dota 2 rankings. But, more importantly, the team has just increased their chances of receiving a direct TI7 invite.

The Kiev Majors aside, Newbee have been one of the most consistent Dota 2 teams in 2017. They’ve only finished lower than 3-4th in all the LAN tournaments they’ve attended so far. They very nearly won Manila Masters 2017, a tournament stacked with top-quality competition. Then, just barely a week after Manila Masters 2017, Newbee took home the Zotac Cup Masters title.

Meanwhile, for Planet Odd, Rasmus ‘MiSeRy’ Filipsen couldn’t have summed up their team’s future any better.

Galaxy Battles 2017 Grand Finals Recap

What the 3-0 series score doesn’t show is how close all the three games were. You could see that both teams gave it everything they had, with neither refusing to give the other team a significant advantage. To that point, the series remained competitive all throughout. In fact, both the kill count and total gold earned by the two teams remained relatively close through all the three games.

Ultimately, however, Newbee would win on the backs of their superior coordination and ability to distribute farm and experience evenly. In contrast, Planet Odd’s supports were under levelled most of the time. As a result, they were unable to contribute to the team fights as much.

Now that Galaxy Battles 2017 is over, DOTA Summit 7 remains the only LAN tournament before the open qualifiers start on June 22.

DOTA Summit 7 will also wrap up pretty soon. Currently, Team Secret, the first to secure a spot in the Grand Finals, are waiting for which of Virtus Pro or LGD Gaming will make it out of the lower bracket finals.

In addition to the open qualifiers, we’ll also likely see Valve hand out the TI7 invites in the coming days. While we’ll never know for sure, there’s a huge chance that Newbee and either one of Team Secret or Virtus Pro will be among those invited to The International 2017.
