Newbee Stand Tall in Day 2 of the Perfect World Masters Playoff

Day 2 of the Perfect World Masters Playoff ends with Newbee taking down one of their closest contenders in LGD.ForeverYoung and making sure that they don’t find themselves in the wrong end of a huge upset up against Team Kinguin in the semifinals.

Judging by their recent performance, it seems that Newbee aren’t ready to vacate their spot on top of China’s totem pole just yet.

ViCi Gaming vs Newbee – A Rivalry in the Making

Formed after their 9th-12th place finish at The International 6, Newbee’s latest lineup, now captained by TI2 winner Zeng ‘Faith‘ Hongda, have proven themselves as one of the best Dota 2 teams in and out of China. Although they encountered quite a few stumbles throughout the year, such as finishing last at both the Boston Major and the Kiev Major, Newbee remained a constant threat.

In fact, the TI7 runner-ups were the only Chinese team who consistently performed well throughout the year. Even the DAC 2017 champions, Invictus Gaming, went through a bit of a dry spell for a couple of months. Meanwhile, LFY and LGD Gaming only became relevant in the months leading up to The International 7.

This season, however, Dota 2’s Pro Circuit has given rise to a potential rivalry between ViCi Gaming and Newbee.

Initially thought as another star-studder lineup doomed for failure after their abysmal 0-4 performance at the Starladder Minor, ViCi Gaming have rebounded since. In fact, many now consider them as the best Dota 2 team in China after they took down Newbee, among others, at the Dota Pit LAN Finals a few weeks back.

So far this season, ViCi Gaming holds a 3-2 series lead against Newbee. A fourth straight beat down of Newbee in the upper bracket finals of the Perfect World Masters Playoff — and potentially a fifth time in the Grand Finals — should make ViCi Gaming the best Dota 2 team in the most competitive region in the world.
