After the formation of the new FaZe roster just a month ago, the European super-team has opened their season with an emphatic victory in New York, beating Liquid 3-0 in the final.
The Darkness Before The Dawn
FaZe’s win in New York was a crucial boost to the morale of the Europeans after a disappointing outing in Malmö, which saw the team bomb out in the group stages after losing to Gambit. However, the Swedish failing was one which may have been necessary for FaZe… it seems to have brought dedication and an iron determination to win to a team so star-studded it could easily grow over-confident.
A Flawless Outing
In the modern era of Counter Strike, flawless outings are few and far between. That’s due to the caliber of the competition, of course. Which is exactly what fans have come to adore over the last couple of years.
That’s why the way in which FaZe powered through to this title is even more impressive, with victory after unrivaled victory leading up to a grand finale. The Europeans managed to cut a swathe through teams of efficient and skilled enemies, to drive through to the title.
Despite some saying that they only won because of the draw, the European squad truly did look untouchable at this event, in match after match, against team after top-tier team.
Halting The American Dream
FaZe’s brilliant victories have crushed dreams of a North American resurgence. Both Cloud9 and Liquid managed to prove themselves worthy of a playoff spot, only to fall to the FaZe squad. Firstly, Cloud9 stepped up to the plate, only to lose in two maps with a mere combined seven rounds to their name. Following such a convincing victory against the de facto number one side in North America, even the most loyal Liquid fans had their doubts going into the second and final day of play at the Barclay’s Center.
As it turns out, those doubts were warranted, as Liquid fell in three consecutive maps to FaZe. Despite a close map in Cobblestone, with the Europeans coming out on top 16-14, the first and third maps were convincing wins.
FaZe steps with deserved confidence into the future, with NiKo and Rain forming a solid, dependable core to the team. They are well complimented by the supporting cast, who are each in themselves capable of carrying maps.
Whether or not the squad can continue their strong performances in the near future remains to be seen. But they’ve set a strong precedent for multinational teams across the CS:GO cosmos.
