NA LCS 2017 Summer Split Week 5 Preview – Season Mid-Point

After four exciting weeks full of turnovers and upsets, NA LCS 2017 Summer Split Week 5 marks the critical point for all teams involved.

THE TOP

IMT, CLG and TSM must keep the winning streaks. It’s still a long way ahead, but only Immortals can somewhat afford a loss at the moment.

THE MIDDLE

Team Dignitas and Cloud9 are close behind, each team suffering 3 losses so far. They’re hard-pressed not to lose a series as well. Cloud9 will have an especially hard task up ahead, first facing their perennial rivals TSM, followed by an even harder clash with CLG.

Then there’s Team EnVyUs. The wildcard team of the season. With their surprising win against Immortals in Week 2, followed by a disappointing loss to Echo Fox in Week 3, they’re currently their own worst enemy. If they can finally compose themselves, they can still go far.

Echo Fox will have an easier job than most other teams, facing Team Liquid and FlyQuest. Still, their loss against Phoenix1 last week proves they’re not out of the danger zone.

THE BOTTOM

The bottom-dwellers, Team Liquid, FlyQuest and Phoenix1, can only hope for a miracle against the likes of EnVy, Dignitas, IMT and CLG in Week 5. It’s very hard to imagine any of these three suddenly bursting out with a streak of wins any time soon.

SCHEDULE & PREDICTIONS

NA LCS 2017 Summer Split Week 5, Day 1 (June 30)

C9 vs. TSM

Both teams have improved since their shaky starts. However, TSM arguably looked more convincing in their victories compared to C9’s troubled, grinding series that went the distance.

WINNER PREDICTION: TSM

P1 vs. NV

If P1 can finally get together and play cohesively as a team, they have a real chance of beating an iffy NV lineup. Realistically, it’s probably still too “early” for something like that to happen.

WINNER PREDICTION: NV

NA LCS 2017 Summer Split Week 5, Day 2 (June 30)

TSM vs. IMT

Longstanding champions against a team that’s going through their breakthrough season right now? Tough call for real… Immortals certainly look the best they’ve ever looked, more than capable of beating anybody at the moment.

WINNER PREDICTION: IMT by 2:0. Or TSM 2:1

CLG vs. C9

CLG has definitely lost some of that initial “WOW” factor from the start of the season. Losses against TSM and IMT prove the point. If C9 plans to advance to the top 3, this is the team to beat.

WINNER PREDICTION: C9

DIG vs. FLY

Realistically, Team Dignitas has all the attributes to convincingly beat FlyQuest. Any other result would be more than just an upset here. It would be a sign FlyQuest has finally woken up.

WINNER PREDICTION: Dignitas via Ssumday

FOX vs. TL

Now, depending on the mental state of these two teams on this particular day, this could be either a very close and exciting slugfest, or a forgettable 2:0 for Echo Fox. Team Liquid has shown they can exploit their opponents’ bad day against a team such as Dignitas, so Echo Fox better watch out.

WINNER PREDICTION:  FOX

NA LCS 2017 Summer Split Week 5, Day 2 (June 30)

P1 vs. IMT

P1 winning this would cause a ripple in the fabric of time and fatal collapse of multiverse into a quantum singularity of epic proportions. Move on, nothing to see here.

WINNER PREDICTION: IMT 2:0

FLY vs. FOX

Not seeing anything else here but another victory for Echo Fox. FlyQuest is in maintenance-mode this season.

WINNER PREDICTION: FOX

NV vs. DIG

There’s really no easy way to describe this one. Both teams had equally good and bad performances this season. NV is still highly dependent on LirA, but so is Dignitas on Ssumday. Rank-wise, the outcome of this series will likely push these two teams out of reach from one another for a good while.

WINNER PREDICTION: Dignitas, narrowly.

TL vs. CLG

There’s only one question about this series. Can Team Liquid make it go the distance? Because, let’s be real, we can already count this one as another win for CLG.

WINNER PREDICTION: CLG
