Late into the night in Manchester, The latest FIFA 18 champion has been crowned. Emerging after a long day as victor is Saudi Arabian Msdossary. He claimed the FUT Champions Cup Manchester title after beating out 127 of his fellow competitors over the 3 day event. Coming off his strong showing at ESWC the weekend before, Aldossary Mosaad claimed the title after beating Philipp Schermer, known as Eisvogel, with an aggregate score of 6-4.
FUT Champions Cup Manchester Grand Finals
The two legged grand final first took place on the Xbox, Msdossary’s home console. The eventual champion raced to a 2-0 lead by halftime. In what seemed to be a blatant plug for Manchester City, the halftime “show” involved a long drawn out segment of trying to give away a signed Manchester City shirt. This long and unnecessary delay may have caused Msdossary to lose focus, because the match ended 2-2.
After another incredibly long delay to switch consoles, the FUT Champions Cup Manchester grand finals continued on the PS4 console. The tie was very much a back and forth affair, until Msdossary raced to a 2-0 lead in the second match. A short fightback by Eisvogel couldn’t get him back in the game, with the Saudi falcon putting the tie to bed and winning 6-4 on aggregate.
Form coming into tournaments
As we mentioned earlier, the form of players coming into this tournament played a big part in how they performed here as well. Msdossary placed 3rd at the previous weekend’s ESWC tournament. Winners Agge and Dubzje also performed well at this tournament. However, with high level tournaments in the FIFA scene either split too far apart, or too few, in different regions, or a combination of all, players have resorted to organising mini-tournaments of their own.
We clearly see what competing at a high level constantly can do for these players, so it will be interesting to see how the FIFA professional community, or the organisers themselves, will do to keep up the level of competition.
Best in the world heading to the playoffs
In other news, away from the cameras and the spotlight, Kurt has booked himself a spot at the FIFA eWorld Cup playoffs. Since some of the quarterfinalists at this FUT Champions Cup Manchester tournament had already booked their spots in Barcelona or otherwise, there were 5 spots up for grabs for the losers of the round of 16. The professional FIFA community breathed a collective sigh of relief when he made the announcement on twitter, as the playoffs will certainly not be a dull affair with Kurt there.
All eyes will be looking forward to the FIFA eWorld Cup playoff tournament in June. In between then, there are a few regional tournaments to be competed at, and an official FIFA Club World Cup tournament. The exact format, or even game mode, of the latter is still unknown. We will release details about those as soon as we have.
Once again, congratulations to Msdossary, your FUT Champions Cup Manchester champion!
