MP5-SD, New Weapon in CS:GO

There hasn’t been a new weapon in CS:GO since the winter 2015 which added the Revolver. But that has changed with the latest update from Valve which included a number of game-changing features and a brand new weapon. The MP5-SD.

MP5-SD

For those who have played the game from the start will know this isn’t exactly a new weapon. The MP5 was one of the most used SMGs in the original CS 1.6. We have been looking forward to this returning to the game. And it’s finally here.

Valve were keen not to make the same mistake as they did when bringing Revolver to the game. So for now, this weapon is not yet available in matchmaking. You are, however, able to equip it in your MP7 loadout slot and try it on the official deathmatch servers.  We still don’t know when will we be able to use it in competitive matches but it should come with the next update.

MP5-SD comes with an integrated silencer, 30 ammo and 120 more in reserve, the same as the original. The current cost of this weapon is $1500 but don’t be surprised if this changes. Compared to the UMP, it deals less damage but has a faster fire-rate and better recoil control. It is better SMG for anti-eco rounds. On top of that, you will have a higher movement speed which is pretty helpful in short range fights against Glocks. Plus it is silenced, so enemies won’t know your exact location.

To sum up, this weapon is not something you should use in competitive matchmaking. It can be used in second rounds after winning a pistol round and after resets in anti-eco rounds too boost your economy. It is not viable in long-range fights and riffles would always come out on top so don’t force it just because it is new.

Other major changes in this update:

CS:GO Panorama

The new Panorama UI view is a major visual change to the game.

– Lobbies advertised to nearby players and Steam Groups members will now expire after 5 minutes of the lobby leader’s inactivity.

This is a helpful addition that will help you stay out of AFK lobbies.

– Panorama UI is now enabled by default on all platforms (including Windows XP and Windows Vista game clients).

Although nobody who is playing CS:GO has an old configuration with Vista or XP due to low FPS, valve covered this field too.

– playgamesound command is now cheat protected.

The only bad thing in this update is that this command is no longer usable. Many players used it to remove the background sounds (example: trains on de_overpass) to get better concentration and help hear the enemy. Now you are forced to hear these in-game sounds preventing you from taking advantage of this.
