MiSeRy Replaces UNiVeRsE in Evil Geniuses Dota 2 Roster

The Evil Geniuses Dota 2 roster will start 2018 with a new look. Gone now is their longtime offlaner, TI5 winner Saahil ‘UNiVeRsE‘ Arora. Replacing him on the team is TI6 runner-up and Shanghai Major champion, Rasmus ‘MiSeRy’ Filipsen.

Evil Geniuses released the announcement earlier today. UNiVeRsE himself also appeared to confirm this huge roster change when he tweeted this:

Though the Danish Dota 2 veteran is a capable offlaner on his own right, MiSeRy will not take up UNiVeRsE’s role. Instead, he will man the back lines as Evil Geniuses newest position 5 support. Meanwhile, Clinton ‘Fear‘ Loomis will switch roles and play as the team’s midlaner.

In a surprising turn of events, Syed Sumail ‘SumaiL‘ Hassan will move away from the lane that he has dominated since bursting into the scene two years ago. He will now take on the challenge of facing the opposing team’s carry in what many refer to as the “suicide lane”.

The Unlikely Evil Geniuses Dota 2 Roster Shuffle

Not many saw this roster shuffle coming. Even if Evil Geniuses’ failure to advance to the Dota Summit 8 Playoffs was admittedly disappointing. Especially not after the boys in blue seemed to have found their footing at the DreamLeague Major where they placed 3rd, losing only to Team Liquid and the eventual winners, Team Secret.

That UNiVeRsE was the one who left the team comes as even more of a shock.

UNiVeRsE, 28, is a longtime Dota 2 veteran who is one of only four players to have ever been to all 7 The Internationals. More importantly, save for a brief stint with Team Secret in 2016, UNiVeRsE have spent the better part of the last 4 years with Evil Geniuses. He was also part of the Evil Geniuses Dota 2 roster that won The International 5 and the man behind one of the most popular Dota 2 plays of all time — the $6 million dollar echo slam.

Having said that, it’ll be interesting to see how well both SumaiL and Fear will adjust to their new roles.

We’ll get our first LAN glimpse of the latest Evil Geniuses Dota 2 roster at the Captains Draft Minor on January 4-7.
