TNC Pro Team turned a lot of heads with their performance on Day 1 of the MDL Macau Minor LAN Finals. Making their first appearance in a Pro Circuit LAN this season, Theeban ‘1437‘ Siva and the Filipinos finished the day with a 3-0 win-loss record, highlighted by a resounding win against LGD Gaming in their final game of the day. Just right behind TNC in the standings are OG (3-1), who seem to finally be rounding into midseason form. Meanwhile, the surprise direct invites and another Pro Circuit LAN debutante, EHOME, are in third place after going 3-2.
Heading into Day 2, no team has yet to clinch their berth in the playoffs and every team still have a chance of advancing, including Infamous, who are 0-3. VGJ.Storm, Virtus Pro, and Natus Vincere are all currently tied in 4th-place with 2-2 records.

The 18-best-of-one round robin games slated for the opening day of the MDL Macau Minor LAN Finals gave birth to a couple of upsets and surprises, none more so than TNC Pro Team ending the day undefeated and being the only team with such a perfect opening. Although critics are quick to point out that it was against relatively weak competition, it came unexpected nonetheless. Especially as the tournament favourites, LFY, Natus Vincere, and Virtus Pro, stumbled out of the gates with only 2 wins each.
Virtus Pro’s performance, in particular, caused many of their fans to worry. With team captain Alexei ‘Solo‘ Berezin off on a break, the CIS bears, with their coach Ivan ‘Artstyle‘ Antonov standing in, dropped their first two games. This included a quick 27-minute GG against VGJ.Storm, who are also playing with a stand-in in Newbee’s Damien ‘kpii‘ Chok. However, Virtus Pro found a way to regroup later on, handing OG their only loss of the day and giving LFY a sound beating to close the day out.

Speaking of OG, their 3-1 record is surely music to many of their fan’s ears. They’re now in prime position to advance to the playoffs and secure some much needed Qualifying Points for the first time this season. The same goes for EHOME, who went on to play five games for the day, winning 3 of them with Chen ‘Cty‘ Tianyu drafting for the team.
Of the 9 teams participating, only Infamous are looking like a sure pick right now to not make it to the playoffs. After dropping all three of their games in Day 1, the Peruvians will need to come up big tomorrow and win five straight to have any chance of landing themselves in the top four.
MDL Macau Minor LAN Finals – Who Will Advance in the Playoffs?
While MDL’s decision to pack as many as 18 games in one day is questionable at best, you can’t deny that it made for one hell of an opening day. Day 2 is looking to be even better, with just as many games scheduled, but with more at stake. Expect all of the nine teams to ramp up their play and pull out every ace out of their proverbial holes to put them in the best position to advance to the playoffs.
Day 2 of the MDL Macau Minor LAN Finals will kick things off tomorrow at 10:00 (SGT) with two games happening simultaneously until 20:00 (SGT).
