MDL Macau CIS Qualifier - NaVi Secure Controversial Win - Esportsranks
MDL Macau CIS Qualifier – NaVi Secure Controversial Win

Without Virtus Pro to police around the MDL Macau CIS Qualifier, Natus Vincere was able to make their way through the single-elimination bracket qualifiers to secure a berth in the MDL Macau Minor on December.

While certainly a cause for celebration, Natus Vincere‘s latest qualifier win comes with a little bit of controversy.

MDL Macau CIS Qualifier – NaVi Catch a Lucky Break

With the series tied at one game apiece in the Grand Finals of the MDL Macau CIS Qualifier, Team Empire had looked like they had the game in the bag in the series clincher. They held a comfortable 10k gold lead, had Aegis of Immortals and Cheese in hand, and were threatening to push high ground 33 minutes into the game. However, that was when a very unlikely glitch caused the crucial match to crash.

Speculations arose that Shadow Demon casting Demonic Purge on Phantom Lancer illusions caused the crash. Regardless, with no option to restore a match since Dota 2’s Reborn update, the two teams had to replay the game with the same picks, as per the rules.

Good game Team Empire, strong as always! Thanks for the game! 💪Winning this match 2:1, MDL Macau we are coming! 🙌#dota2 #gonavi

In the remake, Natus Vincere ended up winning the game and the series; Team Empire seemed flustered by the earlier issues. In fact, both Rostislav ‘fn‘ Lozovoi and Andrey ‘Ghostik‘ Kadyk disconnected from the game even before their team had called “gg”.

Former Team Empire player and current Natus Vincere member, Vladimir ‘RodjER‘ Nikogosyan, then went on to apologise for the win when his former teammate Yaroslav ‘Miposhka‘ Naidenov eventually called the game.

The controversial win gives Natus Vincere their 3rd Minor berth for the season. The black and yellow had a spirited showing at the Starladder Minor, albeit they failed to make it to the playoffs. They posted an even worse performance at the PGL Minor, where they finished in last place.

As for Team Empire, winning the MDL Macau CIS Qualifier would’ve given them their second Minor berth, and technically their first Pro Circuit LAN appearance. They currently are set to represent CIS at the Captains Draft Minor in January.
