MDL Disneyland Paris Major Lower Bracket Finals: Team Liquid vs Evil Geniuses - Esportsranks
MDL Disneyland Paris Major Lower Bracket Finals: Team Liquid vs Evil Geniuses

Mirroring their run at The International 2017, Team Liquid will look to try and soldier on in the lower brackets, starting with a revenge match against Evil Geniuses at the MDL Disneyland Paris Major Lower Bracket Finals.

Evil Geniuses initially looked thoroughly outmatched in their series against Team Secret yesterday. But, after composing themselves, they gave Team Secret one of the hardest beatings they’ve ever been on the receiving end of, before very nearly pulling away with a win. Now, they look to try and secure a rematch in the Grand Finals. But, to do that, they’ll have to beat Team Liquid first.

Evil Geniuses already took down Team Liquid earlier in the opening rounds of the Upper Bracket of the Playoffs. Now, they’ll look to try and do it again.

Here is our preview for the MDL Disneyland Paris Major Lower Bracket Finals between Evil Geniuses and Team Liquid.

Team Liquid vs Evil Geniuses — What Do The Odds Say?

As per the oddsmakers over at ArcaneBet, Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses are pretty even.

At 1.80 odds (bet $100 to win $180) and 1.98 odds (bet $100 to win $198) to win, respectively, it’s a pretty tight matchup, both in the eyes of the people behind the lines and the folks who’ve been watching the games live at the Disney® Events Arena or at home.

If we take a look at the team’s previous match history, there isn’t really much to take away.

The few times that these two Dota 2 teams met in a LAN setting was when Evil Geniuses were playing with a stand-in. But, small sample sizes be damned, it seems like the current iteration does indeed have Team Liquid’s number, going 2-1 against the TI7 champions over the lifetime of their current roster.

It’s not that big of an advantage, but it is still worth noting.

After all, there are only very few Dota 2 teams in the world who have players capable of neutralizing what Amer ‘Miracle-‘ Al-Barkawi can do and Syed Sumail ‘SumaiL‘ Hassan is one of those players. If effectively corralled, Team Liquid’s gameplan suffers massively, even if they might get away with a massive draft advantage against Evil Geniuses.

MDL Disneyland Paris Major Lower Bracket Finals Predictions

MDL Disneyland Paris Major Lower Bracket Finals

If Evil Geniuses win against Team Liquid, it’ll mark the first time that Arteezy will make it to at least second place at a Valve-backed event. (Evil Geniuses)

If there’s one thing that Evil Geniuses have proven, it’s that you’ll very rarely beat them in the draft. Not because they’re good at drafting — no offense to Tal ‘Fly‘ Aizik and Sam ‘BuLba‘ Sosale — but because of their sheer individual skill and understanding of the game. Not to mention, the cumulative experience they have on their lineup, with two TI winners, multi-Major winners, and hyper-carry, Artour ‘Arteezy‘ Babaev.

With that said, Team Liquid is a team that can’t just simply be outmatched and outplayed either.

Team Liquid won The International 2017 with the same lineup and placed fourth at The International 2018. Although they may not have had such a great season so far, they’re slowly inching their way back to relevancy, and so far, they’re looking as good as ever.

Unfortunately, Evil Geniuses have looked even better.

Team Liquid are best when they get a head start. Against Evil Geniuses, that’s a tall ask. Even if they have to sack one of their cores, asking Team Liquid to win two out of three of their lanes might just be too much, especially with Gustav ‘s4‘ Magnusson starting to head up.

Betting: Evil Geniuses to win at 1.80 odds via ArcaneBet.
