Virtus.Pro, Newbee, Team Secret and ViCi Gaming all received direct invites the MDL Changsa Major, the third-to-the-last Major of the 2017-18 Pro Circuit. Notably missing among the list of direct invites and the teams vying for a spot via the qualifiers are the reigning TI champions Team Liquid.
Who Will Qualify for the MDL Changsa Major?
As is the standard with Pro Circuit tournaments, each of the six competitive regions — NA, SA, EU, CIS, China, and SEA — will get a spot in the tournament. However, much like with MDL Macau, Mars Media decided to forgo the Chinese Qualifiers. Instead, the top three teams at the Dota 2 Professional League Season 5 – Top League Online Chinese Tournament will receive a spot in the LAN Finals of the MDL Changsa Major.
The DPL Top League and Europe Regional Qualifiers are currently underway. There’s no info as of yet when the Regional Qualifiers for the other regions will start. But, expect it to come season, as there’s very going to be very little lull period for teams between now until the joint Major between PGL and Perfect World to end the season in June.
The MDL Changsa Major will be Mars Media’s second tournament of the 2017-18 Pro Circuit. The first, the MDL Macau Minor, was a huge success, with OG taking home honors after beating TNC Pro Team 2-0 in the Grand Finals. But unlike the previous event, this will be a major; more will be at stake here. As much as $1 million USD and 1,500 Qualifying Points will be up for grabs for the twelve participating teams.
The MDL Changsa Major is scheduled for May 14-20 at the Hunan International Convention and Exhibition Center in Changsha, China.
Why do you think Team Liquid decided to skip out on the MDL Changsa Major? So far, since iteration of Team Liquid have skipped out on two of Mars Media’s events already. Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
