Match Predictions for the Semi Finals of IEM Season XII - Esportsranks
Match Predictions for the Semi Finals of IEM Season XII

With the Quarter Finals over and done with, IEM Oakland moves into the Semi Finals. We saw some dominating plays from the teams moving ahead in this event. Those teams are SK Gaming, FaZe Clan, Cloud9 and Ninjas in Pyjamas. With the Semi Finals finally here, the pairings look nothing short of amazing, and match predictions for this event are going to be especially interesting. Ninjas in Pyjamas will face off against SK Gaming, while FaZe will butcher Cloud9. Did I really say that? I meant, FaZe will meet Cloud9 in a gentlemanly match where all the niceties and civilities will be observed.

The first match is Ninjas in Pyjamas vs Sk Gaming.

It’s a match between the LAN-dominating Ninjas in Pyjamas, and the online-dominating SK Gaming. And yes, the Ninjas did lose to the SK Gaming juggernauts in the group matches, but it was a close thing. Besides, the map was Cobblestone, which is really one of SK Gaming’s best. Don’t forget that the Ninjas utterly dominated Group A to enter the Semi Finals directly. Another point in the Ninjas’ favor is that, unlike SK Gaming, none of the matches played by Ninjas in Pyjamas went into overtime. This makes the upcoming match a very close thing, with each team having the potential to win if they pick and ban matches wisely.

What are Esportsranks’ analysts’ match predictions for this combination?

These are going to be LAN matches, and co-incidentally both teams have won sixty six percent of the LAN matches they have played. Both teams also have above average win-rates in LAN matches. For those who are interested in live betting, SK Gaming is likely to dominate the Ninjas in Cobblestone, Mirage and Inferno. Ninjas in Pyjamas, on the other hand, are more likely to dominate in Overpass, Cache and Nuke. Both teams are equally matched in Train.

Our analysts’ match predictions say that this match is going to be very interesting. However, they also say that it’s not one to place a stake on that you can’t afford to lose. SK Gaming are unreliable, and the Ninjas unpredictably lethal when you least expect them to be so, so this match is likely to swing either way. Nevertheless, the odds are running at 1.30 in favor of Ninjas in Pyjamas, and if you put something on them, you’re likely to win.

The next match is between Cloud9 and FaZe Clan.

Gambit may have lost to Cloud9, but they savaged them badly, and proved that they are not a team to be trifled with. However, we do have Cloud9 here in the Semi Finals, which does prove their mettle. This means that there’s going to be an exciting match between two utterly lethal and very professional teams.

These teams met recently at ESL One in New York.

In that fateful encounter, FaZe crushed Cloud9 in a best-of-three set of matches. Cloud9 were only able to win a dismal four rounds in Mirage, and three in Overpass. That means that Cloud9 were utterly outclassed by FaZe there. Perhaps these pro teams simply get out on the wrong side of their beds on some mornings. FaZe has certainly been known to do so.

However, what’s past is but prologue.

As of today, Cloud9 have played forty six LAN matches and won twenty nine of them. This gives them a sixty three percent win-rate. Personally, we’d say that wasn’t very much more than average. On the other hand, FaZe Clan, despite their rather out-of-character losses, have participated in thirty six LAN matches and lost just nine. This gives them a win rate of a terrifying seventy five percent.

For those who would like to go live in placing their stakes, Cloud9 do have a chance if they choose their maps wisely. They are better than FaZe in Cobblestone and in Train, and almost their equals in Mirage. FaZe Clan utterly dominates Cloud9 in all the remaining maps. If you’d like match predictions, FaZe are a team with superlative skills, and certainly can completely dominate this encounter, if they play in top form. They are the safest choice for your stake here, and offer excellent chances for a win. The odds are running at about 1.28 on the redoubtable FaZe Clan.
