With the year coming to an end, one of the last Major Leagues of the year has come around again. Gambit Esports dominated the championship last year, and Renegades came in second. It should be interesting to see if Gambit can retain the title this year. Renegades will not be playing at DreamHack Winter this time around. The first matches in Group A will be on the first of December. There will be three matches played on day one, all of which will be best of one matches. The opening match in Group A is particularly interesting, and will be between Gambit Esports and Rise Nation. Match two will be between Heroic and Natus Vincere. This is also a reasonably interesting match up. Let’s take a closer look at each of the competing teams, and work up match predictions for each battle.
Gambit Esports Vs Rise Nation
This is a rare pairing, because Gambit Esports are a Tier one team, and Rise Nation are Tier three. This pairing is basically the reigning champions versus the underdog. However, match predictions have to be approached with some subtlety, because things are not always what they seem. For example, Rise Nation have won one Minor league with their current roster, while Gambit Esports still haven’t won a single league in the one hundred and seven days since they made changes to their roster. Not only have Gambit Esports failed to win any recent event, but they have also lost quite a few matches against Tier two teams. On the other hand, Rise Nation have actually played, and won, a few matches against Tier one teams. This gives Rise Nation a fairly good chance of beating Gambit Esports.
Match Predictions for this Pairing
Let’s start with the champions. Gambit Esports have won forty seven percent of their matches, and fifty percent of the rounds played. Rise Nation have won fifty five percent of their matches, and fifty one percent of the rounds played. Gambit Esports also have a fifty one percent chance of winning a pistol round, while Rise Nation have a fifty seven percent chance of doing the same. Those stats are really rather close, so risking a stake is chancy. You could risk something on the reigning champions, with the odds running at 1.14 on Gambit Esports.
Natus Vincere vs Heroic
Natus Vincere faced Heroic in best of three online match sets after the recent changes to their roster. In their online encounter, Heroic defeated Natus Vincere in the first two matches to take the match set. This gives Heroic a very good chance against Na’Vi. Let us use recent matches in which these teams faced off against each other as a basis for our match predictions.
Match Predictions for this Pairing
Heroic have played one hundred and one matches, and won fifty two percent of them, while winning fifty one percent of the rounds played. Natus Vincere have only won thirty six percent of their matches, and forty four percent of the rounds played. Na’Vi have a thirty two percent chance of winning the crucial pistol rounds, while Heroic have a much higher win rate of forty nine percent in a pistol round. Natus Vincere do look vulnerable, but remember that all their recent matches were online ones, and Na’Vi are far more lethal at LAN events. Heroic did defeat Gambit at the WCA Finals this year, and cannot be taken lightly, either.
This pairing is very balanced, so give it a pass, and bet on the earlier match up. There are far better chances of a good win there. Would you like more information before making your pick?
