Evil Geniuses is the Manila Masters 2017 Champion

Evil Geniuses just proved that they’re immune to rust by taking home the title in their first appearance of the season. They are the Manila Masters 2017 Champion.

North American Showdown

We ranked Team NP last in our Manila Masters power rankings. This proved to be a big mistake as the team proved to be anything but the weakest of the bunch throughout the whole tournament.

Playing to the aggression of Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao and yet disciplined enough to know when not to push their luck, Team NP managed to secure a top-three finish at the event.

This set up a North American showdown where many believed that the underdogs, Team NP, could take down Evil Geniuses.

After winning Game 1, Team NP looked to be very capable of doing just that.

In Games 2 and 3, however, Evil Geniuses proved exactly why they’ve remained a perennial powerhouse team, winning two straight to take down Team NP, 2-1.

Team NP may have bowed out of the Manila Masters 2017 because of the loss. After securing a top-three finish, the team, with their new lineup comprised of mostly former Cloud9 members, carries significant momentum heading into the Zotac Cup Masters.

Evil Geniuses Individual Prowess’ Too Much to Handle

Newbee and Evil Geniuses faced off yet once again in a rematch of the winner’s bracket finals.

With the title now on the line, and a chance to prove themselves worthy of a Direct TI7 invite, both teams had every reason to go all out. And, that they did.

Game 1 was all about Evil Geniuses implementing their aggressive push strat with little resistance as they finished the game in just under 30 minutes. However, that very same aggression, especially that of Artour ‘Arteezy’ Babaev, ended up costing them Game 2.

Evil Geniuses, however, would learn from their mistakes. And, in Games 3 and 4, the team played relatively safe, taking objectives, and making smart decisions overall.

Of course, it certainly didn’t hurt that each one of them played out of their minds. Most notable of all was Syed Sumail ‘SumaiL’ Hassan, who showcased his individual skill by avoiding near-death many times.

Of course, Ludwig ‘Zai’ Wåhlberg wouldn’t just let his younger teammate have all the glory.

With Evil Geniuses individual prowess simply too much, Newbee bowed out of the tournament 3-1.
