LPL Regional Qualifiers Day 2
WE secured their place at worlds in the LPL Regional Qualifiers in an incredible, back and forth series against iG.
WE are the third and final seed. They join EDward Gaming and Royal Never Give Up, who are 1st and 2nd seed respectively. The day before, iG took on OMG and clean swept them. This gave them some momentum going into the final series.
Despite this supposed momentum, WE won the first game in a cool, calm and collected manner. They smashed through the iG roster, particularly through their ADC Mystic. Rookie’s carry potential was never realised. WE now had some momentum of their own going into the second game, iG would have to change things up to keep their Worlds dreams alive.
The fight back was real.
The WE cheerleaders were out in full force for their second game against iG. Here are some words we all thought we’d never read – despite Ezrael jungle securing first blood, they ended up losing their lead. You’d be forgiven for blaming this on Condi’s pick.
The Ezrael jungle pick, in the end, cost them, as the tank meta which dominated the jungle at the playoffs shone through, with the Gragas pick by iG. This risky pick looked like it would pay off at first, but it actually cost them the game.
Rookie popping off.
The third game, surprisingly, had no Ezrael jungle in it. Condi had obviously learned from the last game. It was Rookie last game who managed to carry the game. Again, in game three Rookie tried to pop off.
It was a necessary win condition for WE to shut down the supposed best mid laner in the LPL. Both games they lost were definitely because they allowed Rookie too much space. Now the pressure was on WE, with iG being on match point 2-1.
WE make things all level
In game number 4 it was a scrappy, fight intensive affair. In games like this, it’s all based on who can team fight better and create a better composition.
It was WE who succeeded in both of these counts, as well as Rookie not getting any kills in the entire game, which led to a victory by WE.
Both teams would certainly be feeling the pressure going into the final game.
The end of the road for iG
Despite a valiant effort by the iG roster, it was team WE who won the final match. It was a very close series and although iG should be proud of their performances, this is no consolation for a team who have just failed to make it to worlds.
Condi obviously learned from Game 2 where he picked Ezrael jungle. He instead picked Kha’Zix and helped carry WE to a 3-2 victory. Mystic had an incredible game on Xayah. After a team fight which went in favour of WE they secured baron, they finished the final game in 26 minutes and showed why they deserved the last spot at worlds.
