IEM Katowice Major Betting Odds: Favourites, Analysis, Schedule

We’re just a few days away from the start of the New Challengers Stage of the first CS:GO Major of 2019 and Astralis are, by far, the odds-on favourites on the latest IEM Katowice Major betting odds. But, then again, this shouldn’t come off as a surprise. The All-Danish squad have dominated the CS:GO landscape so far in 2019. Lest we forget, they took home nearly 3.5 million in prize money last year, including a $1 million purse from winning Season 1 of the Intel Grand Slam.

As per the sportsbooks monitored by ArcaneBet.com, Astralis are at 2.2o to win (bet $100 to win $220). Their loss to Team Liquid earlier in January in the Grand Finals of iBUYPOWER Masters 2019 hasn’t seem to have put a dent to their standing on top of the IEM Katowice Major betting odds.

As winners of the six out of the past ten LAN tournaments they have played in, including the previous Major, Astralis are heading into the IEM Katowice Major with the hottest hand.

Of course, that isn’t to say that their run will be uncontested, as other teams will, no doubt, look to try and challenge their reign.

IEM Katowice Major Betting Odds — Analyzing the Favourites

Already one of the best teams in CS:GO history, Astralis will look to further cement their legacy with a second straight Major win at IEM Katowice 2019. (Astralis)

With a no-brainer map ban on Nuke, paired with their individual prowess, synergy, chemistry, and strategical depth as a team, it would be a surprise to not see Astralis in the Grand Finals.

From there on, all bets are off.

Team Liquid (5.66 odds to win) have already shown that they can beat Astralis. Even if it came at a Tier 3 event, as declassified by HLTV, it should give them enough of a confidence boost in their latest lineup heading into the Major. Of course, they’re not the only ones playing with a new lineup, as MIBR (7.20 odds to win) are looking to prove that their decision to reunite former teammates under a new banner last December was the right decision.

Speaking of new rosters, FaZe Clan (7.20 odds to win) showed great form by winning the ELEAGUE CS:GO Invitational over Cloud9. It may come with a caveat of the event not being as prestigious, but they’ll take any win they can get, especially since they’re playing with a new lineup.

Finally, Natus Vincere (7.20 odds to win) should not be discounted. Their lack of firepower behind HLTV’s player of the year, Oleksandr ‘s1mple‘ Kostyliev, is troubling, to say the least. However, we simply just can’t forget the fact that this lineup is one of the few to have won multiple series against the current iteration of Astralis.

These four teams — FaZe Clan, Natus Vincere, Team Liquid, and MIBR, are your best bet if you’re looking for a team with a good chance of dethroning Astralis.

IEM Katowice Major Betting Odds — The Dark Horses

IEM Katowice Major Betting Odds

At this point last year, Fnatic were one of the best CS:GO teams in the world, and a deep run at the IEM Katowice Major will help vault them up the standings once again. (Fnatic Counter-Strike)

As we’ve seen in previous Majors, it’s not always the favourites who wins it all. Just as recently as two Majors ago, at the ELEAGUE Boston Major, Cloud9 proved that a dark horse team can indeed pull off an unlikely upset.

With that said, we’ve got our eyes on a number of teams who could potentially make a similar run.

First off are ENCE eSports (26.76 odds to win), who effortless took the top spot of the European leg of the IEM Katowice Minors, over higher-ranked teams such as North and mousesports. Behind the 16-year-old, Jere ‘sergej‘ Salo, ENCE eSports have already proven they can take on better teams on LAN setting with their win at the StarSeries & i-League Season 6 last year.

They are not the only ones worth keeping an eye out for though, as several other teams have just as good of a chance to make a deep run.

Fnatic and Cloud9, who are both favoured at 22.64 odds to win the IEM Katowice Major, should not be taken lightly. The same could’ve been said for BIG (17.50 odds to win), but there’s no telling what kind of form they’ll display with Owen ‘smooya‘ Butterfield out and Johannes ‘nex‘ Maget standing in his place.

IEM Katowice Major Betting Odds — Region of Winner

With FaZe Clan, MiBR, and Team Liquid making up three of the five best CS:GO teams of the tournament, Americas, who, according to the latest IEM Katowice Major betting odds, are at 2.50 odds to win, is a wise choice. But, that’s only if you think Astralis will lose.

So far, there hasn’t been any indication of that happening yet, but, then again, just by the numbers alone, things aren’t looking as good for Europe (1.66 odds to win). Meanwhile, the other regions aren’t even worth considering, with only one CS:GO team logically capable of taking home the title.

Overall, with teams such as Cloud9 and NRG eSports giving Americas a formidable quintet, risking a pick for a bigger return on Americas over Europe seems like the more logical choice.

When Will the IEM Katowice Major Start?

The festivities will kick off on February 13 at the ESL Arena in Katowice, with the start of the New Challengers Stage, and will run through February 17. Afterwards, the New Legends Stage at the International Congress Center, will take place from February 20 to February 24. Finally, the New Champions Stage at the Spodek Arena, will start on February 28 and will end on March 3.

Astralis may very well be at the top of the latest IEM Katowice Major betting odds, but we’ll never know what will happen until it happens. Or, at least, that’s how the saying usually goes.

Either way, with each of the 24 teams looking to kick off 2019 on a good note, one thing we can expect is for every one of them to give it their all.
