The IEM Katowice 2019 quarterfinals is set to kick off pretty soon.
For the first time in years, the Spodek Arena will bare witness as the best CS:GO teams in the world battle it out for a shot at becoming Major winners. However, while every game in the IEM Katowice 2019 quarterfinals is sure to deliver its fair share of highs and lows, we have our eyes set on one game in particular.
The matchup between FaZe Clan and Natus Vincere, ranked #3 and #5 on HLTV’s latest CS:GO ranking, is arguably the biggest draw of the IEM Katowice 2019 quarterfinals.
That both CS:GO teams will have to see each other this early on is a shame. But, alas, it is happening, and we’ve no choice other than to try and predict what the likely outcome is going to be when these two behemoths face off against each other.
Natus Vincere Face off Against a Familiar Foe
Over the past twelve months, Natus Vincere and FaZe Clan have played each other across 18 maps, with the CIS juggernauts winning 11 times. At one point, Natus Vincere even boasted a 9-game winstreak over FaZe Clan, and going as far as holding their opponents to single-digits in rounds won 4 times.
Is it safe to say that this should be a particularly lopsided matchup?
Probably. But, it is worth noting that majority of the games played between these two teams have been relatively close, and while Natus Vincere have had FaZe Clan’s number based on their recent matchups, it is actually FaZe Clan who has had the most dominant showing, which came in the form of a 16-3 beatdown of Natus Vincere on Dust2 at EPICENTER CS:GO 2018 to clinch the series and the trophy.
In fact, if we only count their matchups since October 2018, which was arguably only when Olof ‘olofmeister‘ kajbjer Gustafsson starting getting back into playing form, FaZe Clan hold a 3-1 advantage in head-to-head matchups against Natus Vincere.
IEM Katowice 2019 Quarterfinals Prediction
While FaZe Clan do hold a slight edge in recent matchups against Natus Vincere, we can’t deny the possibility that they won’t be playing their best because of their new lineup. As a result of the constantly shifting roles of each player, it’s hard for their individual skills to stand out, regardless of how high the potential ceiling of the current lineup of FaZe Clan may be.
Not to mention, we can’t just deny the fact that Natus Vincere aren’t the type of team that any player can beat single-handedly. Lest we forget, they still have Oleksandr ‘s1mple‘ Kostyliev, who is arguably much more capable of taking over games on his own than FaZe Clan’s very own Nikola ‘NiKo‘ Kovač.
Plus, olofmeister is struggling.
Yes, it’s great that olofmeister became the only player to have ever made the playoffs stage in all 14 of CS:GO Majors. However, that prestigious accolade can’t hide the fact that he’s also posting the worst rating in a CS:GO Major of his career at 0.93.
This is a huge problem for FaZe Clan because olofmeister served as the team’s second-best player behind NiKo in all of their recent wins against Natus Vincere.
Considering how many things need to go right for FaZe Clan for them to have a shot at winning we’re inclined to side with Natus Vincere.
