After many days of Group Stage action, we’ve finally reached reached the IEM Chicago 2018 Quarterfinals, where only six teams remain in contention.
With some of the highest-ranked CS:GO teams from around then world in attendance, a few known orgs were bound to miss out on the playoffs. That it ended up being Natus Vincere, however, was arguably outside of most people’s expectations. After all, the CIS organization were fresh off a dominant run that saw them take second place at EPICENTER 2018 and win BLAST Pro Series: Copenhagen 2018.
But alas, the unexpected has happened.
Now, we head to the IEM Chicago 2018 Quarterfinals where a seemingly vulnerable Astralis squad will face off against a team looking to pull off another upset in mousesports as Team Liquid look to put a stop to LDLC’s defiant run.
Having said that, let’s break down the matches at the IEM Chicago 2018 Quarterfinals:
IEM Chicago 2018 Quarterfinals
Team Liquid vs LDLC
Match Schedule: November 9, 2018 — 1200H GMT-6
While Team Liquid haven’t dominated as most people predicted, losing to Fnatic with a Semifinal berth on the line, they haven’t played well below their usual standards. Although Russel ‘Twistzz‘ Van Dulken hasn’t consistently been Team Liquid’s best player, the rest of the team has managed to pick up the slack enough that they haven’t lost convincingly when the 18-year-old from Canada doesn’t show up, or so to speak.
That’s a good sign going forward, and they’ll definitely need a more cohesive performance against LDLC, who have enjoyed quite a run for a team ranked 29th on HLTV’s latest world rankings.
While LDLC have done well to reach this far, going any further will require Team Liquid to choke as badly as they did against mousesports at ESL One New York 2018.
Betting: Correct Score 0:2 (IN MAPS) in favour of Team Liquid at 2.33 odds. (GGbet)
Astralis vs mousesports
Match Schedule: November 9, 2018 — 1535H GMT-6
Throughout 2018, mousesports and Astralis have faced off against each other 4 times in a LAN setting. Of those four times, mousesports have only won once, and taken only two maps overall, as their single “series” win was in a Bo1 back in January of 2018 at the ELEAGUE Major.
That alone says a lot about how heavily favoured Astralis is in this particular matchup.
Of course, mousesports are no strangers to pulling off upsets. It wasn’t too long ago that they turned the tables against Team Liquid in North American soil at ESL One New York 2018. Although they haven’t followed up that performance since, the fact remains that they’re well capable of pulling off a win as heavy underdogs should the chance present itself. However, Astralis are the team that you’d least expect to lose against a clearly inferior opponent.
Disciplined, methodical, and objective, Astralis’ brand of CS:GO very rarely loses, which is why they’re the No. 1 CS:GO team in the world and why they’ll take this series against mousesports quite easily.
Betting: Correct Score 2:0 (IN MAPS) in favour of Astralis at 1.98 odds. (GGbet)
