The PlayStation bracket really heated up in the Day 3 of the FUT Champions Cup London with a number of high scoring games, the MoAuba vs Ustun game alone had 17 goals. By the end of the day, we had our PlayStation semi-finalists which will be Stefano Pinna, MoAuba, Nicolas99FC and Yago. The Argentinian shocked everyone by beating Joksan 8-3 in the 2nd last game of the day, the result even more extraordinary as Yago played most of the tie a man down after a red card.
The day threw up a number of mirrored fixtures as due to the losers bracket all the round 3 results were repeated in the quarterfinals.
FUT Champions Cup London Day 3 Recap
Stefano Pinna and Nicolas Villalba Set The Standards
These two impressed most throughout the day and are, with Joksan the best the PlayStation has to offer.
Stefano Pinna started his day by dispatching Prohunter. A professional performance in his game against DrEdanha. It looked to be going to extra time but two late goals including a mazy dribble by C.Ronaldo that led to his Brazillian namesake scoring took him through, 4-2. Stefano would book his place in the semi-final with a win against NYC Chris.
Nicolas started the day with a perfect record, looking more like the player of last year than we had seen so far in FIFA 19. He sailed through Round 2, but came stuck against Maestro in Round 3, losing that match narrowly 6-5. The tournament wouldn’t be over for Nicolas he dropped into the losers bracket. He would battle threw and face off against Maestro again in the semi-final and this time he would make no mistake – he started on fire and won the tie 8-2.
Experienced Players Falter
Two old heads found it tough going in Day 3 and they just so happened to play each other. Eisvogel and Agge faced each other in round 2 with both needing a win to progress. It was one of the games of the day but it would be Eisvogel that would take the victory 6-3. Eisvogel wouldn’t get much further though, being defeated by Dufty 8-5 in Round 4.
These two top-level European players struggling just shows you how much the level has risen. Players from South America, like Yago and Tore, are playing with a flair and fearlessness that makes these old-heads positively outdated.
Onwards To Finals
It may well be the strongest group of players we have seen in a finals day this season, probably aided by the losers bracket introduced in this tournament. The Xbox side looks stronger because of Msdossary and Tekkz – and I would expect them to play each other in the final with Tekkz just edging the game out to reach the cross-platform final.
On the PlayStation side, it’s more open. Stefano Pinna will squeeze by Nicolas and I fancy an upset with Yago defeating MoAuba. Stefano Pinna to win the console final to set up a rematch of the PGL Cup Bucharest.
Tekkz to win it and make history as the first player to win back to back FUT Champions Cups.
The finals are tonight and will be starting an earlier than the previous days. Watch live from 12.45PM GMT on Twitch or YouTube. If you play FUT on FIFA 19 you would be best watching on Twitch as there are regular loot drops if you connect your Twitch account to your EA account.
