FUT Champions Cup London Day 1 & 2 Recap - Esportsranks
FUT Champions Cup London Day 1 & 2 Recap

The FUT Champions Cup London started under a cloud, there had been a number of issues raised by the players around the organization by Gfinity. Originally players were asked to share a room with other competitors, then there was the ban on music and in-game coaching, and a change from the Swiss round to group stages. Another major issue that affected fans may be more than the players was the decision not to stream the group stages. This also meant the tournament would be held over an incredible 4 days – a decision made seemingly days before the start of the tournament.

Players made their voice’s heard and by kick off in Day 1 it seems that many of these issues were resolved and when it certainly looks to have taken nothing out of their desire to compete. Tekkz still very much looks like the man to beat after his performances in the first couple of days, but there are a few players who look like their finally finding their form such as Nicolas99FC and Msdossary and the next two days look to be a must watch.

Tekkz kept up his high level of performance just one loss, to Bundled Stokes, on his way to topping Group A. It was arguably one of the easiest groups, with the only other play of note being Nraseck who finished in 3rd – booking his place in the Semi-final. Hashtag Ryan who had also appeared in the Continental Cup had a tournament to forget, picking up just 2 wins in 7 games.

Group B featured Rafsou, Fabio Denuzzo, Marcus Gomes and Hashtag Harry. The latter two struggled, Marcus Gomes started well with two wins but didn’t taste victory after that. While Hashtag Harry had a nightmare losing his first 4 games and giving himself no chance at qualification. Rafsou and Fabio Denuzzo, played well enough finishing in 4th and 5th respectively.

It seems strange to call someone who plays for PSG a surprise package but Daxe made a statement winning all but one game on his way to Day 2.

Megabit secured top spot with the last game of Group C. It was deserved after beat 2nd placed Nightwatch 8-1 on agg. earlier in the group. Elsewhere in the group M10 Reserden and Jablett, who have both made appearances at LAN this season both made it to the knockout rounds.

The world champion, Msdossary took the top spot in Group D in a strong group that contained GoalMachine and Hensoo who both failed to qualify. GoalMachine looked a shadow of the player we saw at FUT Champions Cup Bucharest and one has to wonder where that player went.

Eisvogel, ChristianSpiteri and the best PlayStation player this season – Joksan all qualified from Group A.

Nicolas99FC sailed through the group. The only player to have perfect 7-0 record. His group was a tough one, featuring Stefano Pinna and FIFAUstun who finished 2nd and 3rd. Stefano Pinna took two games to penalties and won both, maybe luck is on his side this weekend? He certainly has the required skill to go all the way.

MaestroSquad, Xbleu and SPQR Torre all fought their way out of Group C. Torre who has impressed in his performances this season secured a place in the Knockout round with his last game, beating Rainesual 12-5 when it mattered most.

MoAuba and North Agge progressed from Group D. Agge and will feel relieved to be through to the knockout stage.

Day 2 – Xbox Knockouts

FUT Champions Cup London Xbox Finals

The story at the end of the Xbox games on Day 2.

The game of the day went to Nraseck vs Nightwatch. Nraseck had won the first leg 2-0. It was in the 2nd leg that the game really ignited. The goals went back and forth and with 5 minutes to go Nightwatch scored to make it 4-4 and take it through to the extra time. Nraseck took the lead in extra time. Nightwatch had an unbelievable chance to take it to penalties with the last kick of the ball. He took a shot that flew off the bar and on to the wing, falling into the path of his left winger with just an open goal in front of him, but inexplicably the shot went into the side netting.

Nraseck would take his next game to ET when he defeated PSG DaXou 4-3 in another stellar game.

PSG DaXou fell into the loser brackets where he would redeem himself vs Bundled Stokes defeating him 3-2, booking himself a place in the quarter-finals – which would be a repeat vs Nraseck. He would win that game and will face F2Tekkz in the semi-final on Sunday

F2Tekkz looked every bit the 2-time tournament winner, beating M10 Reserden 3-0 over 2 legs, pulling off skill moves and looking relaxed he is still the man to beat.

The Royal impressed in his game against Fabio Denuzzo. He went in front a number of times in the game but Fabio Denuzzo kept coming back into the game but it was The Royal who took the tie, in the end, winning 3-2.

The Royal would then play Megabit. The Royal won the first game 3-0, with Megabit not playing his usual attacking style. Megabit got a foothold in the game taking it to 3-2 in the 2nd leg, and while the end of the game was nervy for The Royal it was too little too late from Megabit. The Royal was through to the semi-final and he would face Msdossary making it an all Saudi Arabian affair and a testament to the talent pool in that country.

What Next?

The action continues tonight in the Playstation bracket tune in from 2 PM GMT, where Nicolass99FC, Eisvogel and SPQR among others will be battling it out for a place in the PlayStation Finals.
