FUT Champions Cup: Day 2 in Manchester is a Shocker

A crazy second day of games at the FUT Champions Cup in Manchester has ended with some of the most famous names eliminated from the tournament.

In a day that will be remembered for giant-killing, many of the pre-tournament favourites are now watching from the sidelines.

Who’s safe, who’s out

Continuing with yesterday’s theme – NA well and truly has come to play. Unknown player RemiMartinn literally came out of nowhere to beat reigning Barcelona champion, F2Tekkz. His NA compatriot GoalMachine took out world champion Unilad Gorilla. Our pre-tournament dark horse, Msdossary, continued his dominant play and progressed to the next round. Kurt’s season seems to be over, as he lost to M Herozia late in the day. This means that he misses out on a qualification spot for the FIFAeWorldCup yet again.

You could say the only veteran players left are Hashtag Harry, the only UK based player left, and Germans Nraseck and Megabit.

Phenom Nicolas99fc continued his dominance by taking out RB Cihan to book his spot in the next round. Team Futwiz’s Honeybadger was the last of the team to fall, and has a long journey back to his native Australia. He was taken out by FIFA veteran Goetzery. Ajax’s LevVinken sadly crashed out in the round of 16 again, this time falling to Maestro. This means that he too misses on a playoff spot for the FIFAeWorldCup.

German Eisvogel has made it through, along with his compatriot Deto. They are joined by Dane FifaUstun and Brazilian Zezinho.

FUT Champions Cup – Major Talking Points

Gameplay controversy – A constant theme throughout the day, has been players complaining about the players not responding to the commands they are giving them. It seems that the issue mentioned above, along with the still-present kickoff glitch, has been the reason why we are seeing such large scorelines. Most of the games had at least 3 goals scored, with 8+ goal thrillers coming as no surprise.

Stars no more? – Take a look at the names that have fallen – Tekkz, Tass, Gorilla, Kurt, Ryan, Agge, Cihan. It seems like now more than ever, it is the time for the new guard to stand up for people to take notice. As we mentioned yesterday, it’s possible that the smooth production has helped calm the nerves of the newcomers, negating any advantage that veteran players accustomed to LAN events may have had. Come this time tomorrow, it’s very much possible that we will see a new name crowned as overall champion.

What is in the NA water?!? – Seriously. Both RemiMartin and Goalmachine have shocked the world by eliminating Gorilla and Tekkz respectively. Caster Chuboi is definitely not one to complain, he’s been elated that his region-mates are performing well. His fellow caster, former footballer Jimmy Conrad, has also picked Nicolas99FC to win the whole event. Will we finally see an NA champion crowned at this FUT Champions Cup? It’s quite possible.

A look ahead

Tomorrow, the games will come fast. The quarters, semis, and finals will all play out tomorrow. In fact, all 4 quarterfinals will play out simultaneously, starting with the PS4 at noon UK time. Afterwards, the Xbox quarterfinals will start immediately. However, the semis will change things up a bit; one Xbox and PS4 semifinal will play simultaneously, followed by the other semifinal matchup.

The Ps4 finals will begin at 5PM UK time. Looking at how things have played out so far, we should not see any delays. Meanwhile, the Grand Finals will follow at 8PM UK time. Will we see a new champion crowned, ala Tekkz? Watch and find out!
