Fortnite World Cup + Arena Mode: Everything You Need To Know About The $40m Tournament - Esportsranks
Fortnite World Cup + Arena Mode: Everything You Need To Know About The $40m Tournament

The Fortnite World Cup is upon us and with the release of v8.2 today and the brand new Arena Mode we have compiled all the information you need to know going forward!

The Fortnite World Cup kicks off on April 13th with a Solo Competition, followed by Duos the week after. The World Cup will alternate between Solos and Duos across its 10-week run.

There is a huge amount of money to win and the competition is open to everyone with Epic making great strides to make high-level competitive Fortnite accessible to as many people as possible.

There will be a $1,000,000 prize pool every week in the online tournaments with every region giving a chance to win money and qualify for the World Cup. By the end of the tournament, Epic will have award $40,000,000 in prize money.

The Fortnite World Cup will culminate in a Grand Finals LAN to be held on July 26-28 in New York City with 100 Solo players and 50 Duos represented from around the world.

Arena Mode is out now so you can get started on your path to the World Cup!

Fortnite World Cup – How To Get Involved

Playing at the Fortnite World Cup is a three-step process but even if you don’t qualify for the pinnacle of the sport there is a lot to get your teeth into no matter what level of player you are – you and your friends could even be in with the chance of winning some money.

Each Online Open occurs over two rounds of play during the weekend, with each server region having their own tournament: North America – East, North America – West, Europe, Asia, Brazil, and Oceana.

Arena Mode (Ranked Mode)

This is Fortnite’s brand new ranked mode and guess what… it’s never going away. Unlike the various cups that we have seen so far, the Arena Mode will be your new portal to all things competitive Fortnite. It seems that gaining a place in the Champions League is key to qualifying for tournaments, so that will be your first aim!

  • Compete any time and gain ‘Hype’ to advance to higher leagues and unlock exclusive tournaments, such as the Fortnite World Cup Online Opens.
  • Each League is broken up into several Divisions, with players working their way from Open League to Contender League to Champion League.
  • Scoring will update from division to division, with an increasing amount of Bus Fare lost with each match at higher divisions.
  • Note: Matchmaking in Arena is based on players with similar Hype. As a result, players in higher divisions may experience longer than normal wait times before a match is found.

Important to note that this isn’t an ELO system. Your points and their value is fixed. So with dedication and a lot of patience you could make it to the Champions League without being a top top player. There are exclusive tournaments unlocked once into the Contender League and access to the World Cup and other “majors” is only for those that have unlocked the Champions League.

Fortnite World Cup Online Open Semi-Finals (Saturdays)

  • 3 Hour Session every Saturday throughout the World Cup.
  • 10 Match Limit.
  • Scoring based on placement and eliminations (see below for format.)
  • Top 3,000 players will advance to the Online Open Finals on Sunday.
  • Players may only participate in one Online Open server region.

Fortnite World Cup $1,000,000 Online Open Finals (Sundays)

  • Points scored during Online Open Semi-Finals on Saturday do not transfer to Online Open Finals on Sunday.
  • 3 Hour Session scheduled by region.
  • 10 Match Limit.
  • The top-ranked players globally will receive cash prizes from a $1,000,000 prize pool.
  • The highest ranked players in each server region will advance to the Fortnite World Cup Finals as outlined below.

Important information

Fortnite World Cup

Matchmaking during both rounds is based off of current points within the tournament, and all players are matchmade together regardless of input device or platform.

Players can switch Duo partners week-to-week but not during the course of a tournament.

Some Duo partners in North America may have a hard decision to make, there is a soft region lock throughout the tournament meaning you can only play in one region per weekend. A duo like Zayt and Saf, who won the Katowice LAN are from either side of the country. So either they put up with the poor connection or make the decision to move for the duration of the tournament/qualifiers.
