The final qualifying tournament for the FIWC Grand Finals has recently concluded in Los Angeles. At the end of 2 days of frantic action, 8 more players received passage to the biggest event in the FIFA calendar. Here’s a look back at the FIWC Americas Qualifiers and all the action.

FIWC Americas Qualifiers – New Region, New format

On the first day of the event, viewers were treated to yet another explanation on how this regional qualifiers would be played. This version saw groups of 8 (!!) players per group. The roster was split into 2 groups of 8 players per console division. The top 4 of each group would then progress to play a final game on day 2, with the winner of that earning a ticket from the FIWC Americas Qualifiers.

This is the third type of qualifying format used by the FIWC organiser this year. In hindsight, each of the different event formats had their strengths and their weaknesses. This format used made more sense than the others, and we may see it again utilised throughout next year.

FIWC Americas Qualifiers – Day 1

The first day of action was dedicated purely for the group stages. With 8 simultaneous games occurring, the action was fast and furious. Early on in the day, favourite XGuastellaX lost his first match 0-1 to XX Benz XX. Other big names such as Epsilon Joey and Lucasrep_98 kicked off the day with wins. FUT Champions Americas regional PS4 winner and crowd favourite NYC_Didychrislito also started off to a great start with a 3-1 win over his opponent.

As the action on the day continued the strain of a high amount of competive games crammed into a short time was clear on the player’s faces. The FIWC Americas Qualifiers first day finished after around 8 hours of gameplay.

FIWC Americas Qualifier knockout

The second day, where each matchup would provide a name put forward towards London, started off with a new hairdo for commentator Richard Buckley, and a cracker of a matchup.

Fnatic and FC ROMA sponsored Roma Aman faced off versus Vini EFLIX. As the first goal went in we saw how much this meant to him as he celebrated the first goal with pure emotion. The first leg ended 3-1 in favour of Roma Aman. In the second leg, Roma Aman got the goal which effectively killed the tie off early in the second half, and we saw just how pumped up he was.

The second match in the FIWC Americas Qualifers was the match everyone was waiting to see. NYC_Didychrislito faced off versus Lucasrep_98 in the battle of the titans. It was Lucasrep_98 who opened the scoring with an insane series of events. NYC_didychrislito conceded a corner from a poor David Luiz clearance. The following corner then came off the same player and nestled into the back of the net. Modric then made it 2-0 soon after and Chris was devastated.

The tie ended with an aggregate score of 2-1 in favour of Lucasrep_98.
