FIFA 17 Madrid Regionals preview – Who will make it thru to Berlin?

The final regionals for the FUT championship is upon us and here we have our early preview of what’s to come. Spain will be the final host for the  FUT Champions season 2 FIFA 17 Madrid Regionals. 32 Players will be vying over the course of the day for the final 8 spots in Berlin. Some big names will be returning and hoping for vindication over what happened in Paris.

Paris Regionals – A look back

Earlier this year, 32 players met in Paris to see who would be the first to go thru to Berlin. Hashtag Tass took the overall championship, beating FC Schalke backed player Cihan in the grand finals. They will be joined by 6 other players, some stalwarts in the professional scene, and some not.

The next and final round will take place in Madrid with the same format as before. 32 players will be competing for 100,000 $ in prize money, and the all important final 8 spots in Berlin. The games will be played on the 6th of May, with the grand finals happening in Berlin on the 20th and 21st of May.

While the final list of players hasn’t been published, we are sure that some major names will be participating. In the Xbox division, Gorilla will want to redeem himself from a poor showing in Paris. Gorilla left the city of lights dead last in his group. A player of immense skill and former world champion, he will undoubtedly put in a strong performance this time. Gorilla is our favourite to take it all.

Hashtag Harry, who lost in the first round of the knockout stages, is also be a strong bet. One competitor who will not be attending, however, is kurt0411. The Maltese player is, unexplainably, from an ineligible country. EA have not released an official statement why this is so, we can only imagine they had a bad pastizzi or something.

One player that we would like to see progress further than what they achieved in Paris is ||_BRUMA_||. A constant name in the weekly leaderboards, Bruma would want to avenge his group stage exit. Another big name that left in the group stages was Boraslegend, or now Hashtag Boras. Another strong competitor from the Hashtag contingent, Boras will want to show that Scandinavia can also dominate in FIFA as they have in other competitive eSport games.

Will we see another fan favourite such as XSHELLZZ come out of this division? We certainly hope so, but are not putting our chips in for the overall champion to come from here. In all 5 previous regionals, the overall champion has come from the Xbox division.
