EU LCS Summer 2018 Week 9 Preview: Battle of the Bye - Esportsranks
EU LCS Summer 2018 Week 9 Preview: Battle of the Bye

EU LCS Summer 2018 Week 9 will be a great indicator of what will happen during the playoffs in the coming weeks.

This week, we’ll see teams battling it out to see who’s going to make it all the way to the semifinals. So far, Schalke 04, G2 Esports, Misfits and Fnatic are in a tussle for the top 2 spots. The reason why these two spots are so important is because they guarantee a place in the semifinals, greatly increasing their chances of reaching and winning the split. However, the EU LCS ladder isn’t exactly what you’d call accurate when it comes to measuring the strengths of each individual team.

Having said that, here is our preview for the EU LCS Summer 2018 Week 9.

Fnatic Will Lock in the Top Spot

This one’s almost for certain. Fnatic has been extremely consistent with the results they’ve been bringing in for almost half a split now, which gives us no reason to start doubting them now. It doesn’t really matter whether they bring Rekkles back to the roster, because they’ve demonstrated that their team roster is synchronized in both cases. Rekkles will always be the team’s silver bullet, and can carry games in their entirety once the meta shifts back to prioritizing ADCs.

Fnatic’s opponents during this week are ones that we’d expect them to defeat.

ROCCAT have hit a slump which they have no reason to get out of, which makes them an easy target for Fnatic. Unicorns of Love, on the other hand, might give Fnatic some trouble during EU LCS Summer 2018 Week 9. They’ve had resurgence, and even though they can’t proceed further in the split, they’ve taken it upon themselves to leave a memorable name for themselves this year.

Favorite Team of the Week: Schalke 04

This team is our favorite this week for a reason: Schalke 04 have proven so much this split that it’s impossible not to believe in them. They’re becoming the team that they set out to be at the start of the year, and it looks like they’ve got their team chemistry working perfectly at last.

This week presents them with matchups that we expect them to win in full swing.

H2K are a team who’ve been showing us some different colors since they had their recent roster changes. They’ve been giving the entire region some serious trouble after that, and Schalke 04 have a chance to assert further dominance over the region should they defeat H2K with ease.

Splyce is a team that’ll be making it to the playoffs with Schalke, so it goes without saying that a victory against them will make them look even better, and will increase the probability of them winning the split.

Match of the Week: Misfits vs Vitality

EU LCS Summer 2018 Week 9

Betting: Vitality to win at 1.93 odds (GGbet)

We’ll be looking at the most consequential match of the week rather than the most exciting. Misfits are one of the 3 teams contesting for the second place in the semifinals. Their chances could be severely marred by Vitality due to a number of reasons.

Firstly, Misfits have been looking relatively weak for a few weeks now. One could say they’re in a slump right now, and even though they have time to recover, it might not be enough. They’ve even lost to less hyped teams like Giants and Splyce, which throws some negative shade on them.

Vitality are going through a completely opposite situation. Ever since they let Kikis play the jungle for them, they’ve been steadily rising, and winning consistently. Although Vitality don’t have any chances of making it to the semifinals right off the bat, they’ll be more than happy to send a message to their competition, and that includes defeating Misfits as hard as they can.

EU LCS Summer 2018 Week 9: Must-Watch Matches

Vitality vs G2 Esports

Betting: G2 Esports to win at 1.50 odds (GGbet)

Both these teams have been looking stellar recently, which makes this match quite exciting.

On the off chance that Vitality win this match, which seems unlikely but is completely within the realms of possibility, Schalke will most likely move on to the semifinals.

G2’s win against Misfits last does tilt the balance in their favor due to how easily they were able to take them on. While Vitality don’t have anything to show for themselves for the previous week, they have defeated Fnatic in the one prior.  That’s a powerful title to hold given how strong Fnatic are going right now.

We think G2 Esports will win this one, even though Schalke 04 are probably hoping otherwise.

Fnatic vs Unicorns of Love

EU LCS Summer 2018 Week 9

Betting: Fnatic to win at 1.25 odds (GGbet)

If Fnatic lose this match, there won’t be any outright claimants to the first spot in the semifinals, and potentially everyone will have a crack at it. This puts some pressure onto Fnatic, because they don’t want any teams to give them competition at this point; no matter how little.

Unicorns of Love have been delivering quality performance ever since Caedrel joined the team, and now they’re out for blood.

While it’s most likely that Fnatic will win, which is also our prediction, there’s always the chance that Unicorns of Love will surprise the audience. They want to go out with a bang, and there’s no better way to do it than to defeat Fnatic as your last match of the year.

Who do you think will win between Vitality and Misfits? Do you think Vitality will be able to upset G2 Esports and pave Schalke’s way to glory? Which team are you rooting for in EU LCS Summer 2018 Week 9? Let us know in the comments below!
