EU LCS 2017 Summer Split Week 3 Recap - Esportsranks
EU LCS 2017 Summer Split Week 3 Recap

A rather normal opening series…

The first two days of the EU LCS 2017 Summer Split offered a ton of surprising results. As expected, Team Vitality beat Mysterious Monkeys, and that was it as far as expected goes. The rest of the series were a pile of upsets, one after another. Here’s our full EU LCS 2017 Summer Split Week 3 Recap.

…was followed by WTF?! Fnatic loss,…

It all started with a chaotic and weird series between ROCCAT and Fnatic. After narrowly winning the first game, Fnatic were murdering ROCCAT in the second. However, ROCCAT took advantage of Fnatic’s aggressive strategy and pushed towards the Nexus, while Fnatic was ever chasing that one more kill. The third match was definitive proof ROCCAT came in with a carefully designed plan to take the series no matter what. Fnatic showed mediocre adaptability, while ROCCAT demonstrated they could beat pretty much anyone with good enough preparation.

…G2 losing to Misfits…

The next day, the series between Misfits and G2 Esports was, hopefully, a wake-up call for G2. After winning convincingly in week 1 with 3 substitutes, the G2 starters have had nothing but trouble after trouble ever since then. Should they have swapped back in their 3 substitutes and kept Perkz and the 2 Koreans on the bench? Misfits, on the other hand, are on a rocket-fuelled path to their group’s tops spot.

…and in the end UOL’s loss to Splyce!

Unicorns of Love sealed the chain of upsets by losing the series against Splyce. For all we know, it might’ve been that Splyce had a really good day while UOL had a really bad one. However, it’s obvious that the Unicorns are definitely not untouchable at all.

The whirlpool of upsets finally stopped on Day 3. Both winners swept their opponents rather easily.

EU LCS 2017 Summer Split Week 3 Recap – Day 3 (June 17)

NiP vs. ROC – 0:2

After that ridiculous show of strategy and planning superiority against Fnatic on Day 1, losing against NiP would’ve been a world-class embarrassment for ROCCAT. NiP’s lineup has shown that they’re nowhere near ready to compete on an equal footing against any half-prepared team yet. Therefore, we can all pretty much just write them off already. On the other hand, ROCCAT has every reason to hold high hopes for reaching the playoffs this season. The EU LCS 2017 summer split week 3 recap pays big respect to ROC. They appear to be the most cerebral team so far, and they should use that trait to its fullest potential in every upcoming series.

H2K vs. VIT – 2:0

Both Team Vitality and Mysterious Monkeys have a misfortune of being in group B, against Splyce, H2K and UOL. It’s very hard to expect these 2 underdogs to start winning consistently against the 3 monsters at the top.

Vitality opened up the first match rather well, even being in a slight advantage at the beginning. However, H2K’s consistent high level of play was simply too much of an obstacle to pass. The turnaround point was somewhere near the 12th minute, and it was all H2K from then on. H2K Odoamne and Febiven were, as usual, in the main stars.

The second game was a classic stomping clinic of which H2K is known for. Nuclear and Jankos took the spotlight in teamfights this time around. It was over quickly in less than 26 minutes of playtime.

The EU LCS 2017 Summer Split Week 4 is about to roll out soon. Stay tuned for Esportsranks preview.
