Fans hoping to see a Cloud9 roster in Dota 2 for the upcoming competitive season may have to wait a little longer now that the organisation has removed the former Team NP members from their website.
No Cloud9 Roster for 2017-18 Season
Cloud9 first ventured into the Dota 2 scene back in 2014 with a team composed of former Speed Gaming members.
The team, which featured the likes of the aforementioned Jacky ‘EternaLEnVy‘ Mao and WehSing ‘SingSing’ Yuen, quickly became fan favourites due to their unorthodox yet successful playstyle.
That particular iteration of Cloud9 was also infamous for giving birth to the organisation’s 2nd place curse as they finished most tournaments as runner-ups and took home a LAN title just once all-year-round.
Unfortunately, Cloud9 was never able to build up on that initial success and even disappeared from the competitive scene completely in 2016.
Cloud9 decided to give Dota 2 another go again earlier this year by picking up the Danish Bears roster ahead of WESG 2016. Although the team ended up taking 2nd place at the said tournament, they failed to qualify for other LAN tournaments and disbanded just a few months later.
Then, just a few weeks before TI7, Cloud9 decided to welcome familiar faces back into the organisation by picking up Team NP only to drop the squad following their abysmal performance at TI7 which saw them finish in 13th-16th place.
Cloud9 has yet to officially announce dropping their Dota 2 roster. However, it is worth noting that this is not the first time Cloud9 has picked up a team prior to a big tournament only to part ways with them after it ends.
