ESL One Mumbai 2019 Playoffs: Keen Gaming vs Natus Vincere

The playoffs portion of the ESL One Mumbai 2019 is finally going to get under way as live audiences at the NSCI Dome in Mumbai will finally be able to bear witness to the eight Dota 2 teams who are vying for the title and the lion’s share of the $300,000 prize pool.

So far, we’ve seen two Dota 2 teams look heads and shoulders above the rest of the field. Both Team Team and Keen Gaming have yet to drop a single game in two straight series and have looked like the heavy favourites to match up in the ultimate round. Given that both Dota 2 teams will not meet until a possible upper bracket finals, it’s certainly possible that the title match will come down between both of these Dota 2 squads.

For now, let us focus on the matter at hand — the matchup between Natus Vincere and Keen Gaming.

Laying Down the Facts for Natus Vincere vs Keen Gaming

ESL One Mumbai 2019

Already facing tough odds heading into the ESL One Mumbai 2019 as a complete lineup, losing SoNNeikO to health issues all but throws any chances of Natus Vincere making a deep run out of the window. (Natus Vincere)

Given that these two Dota 2 teams haven’t really been qualifying for DPC tournaments, as well as other LAN tournaments, all that much this season, they have not played each other yet. Not to mention, both Dota 2 teams have mostly only played against regional competition this year, making it hard to gauge which of these Dota 2 teams are better at what particular areas of the game.

There are a couple of facts we can take away, however.

  • Natus Vincere are currently playing without their captain, Akbar ‘SoNNeikO‘ Butaev. This explains the shot-calling issues the team has evidently had during their games so far.
  • Keen Gaming have easily been the most aggressive Dota 2 team of the tournament, feasting on their opportunities and leading all squads in total kills per game while also giving up the fewest deaths per game.
  • Keen Gaming comes from arguably the toughest region in Dota 2 and are arguably one of the best Dota 2 teams in China right now.

One of the rising contenders from China, a win at the ESL One Mumbai 2019 should give Keen Gaming a lot of confidence heading into the MDL Disneyland Paris Major next month. (Keen Gaming)

Keen Gaming are easily the better team in this series, but the question is, does Natus Vincere have a chance?

To win a game? Maybe. The odds certainly aren’t in their favour, but that doesn’t mean they can’t do it. Despite them still feeling each other out at the ESL One Mumbai 2019, there have been glimpses of how well Natus Vincere can play if in case they managed to pull it together.

Unfortunately, Keen Gaming aren’t the sort of Dota 2 team to give them a chance to come back.

Already considered one of the elite teams in the Dota 2 scene, Keen Gaming will take a mile every inch their opponents give them, and considering how sloppy Natus Vincere have played, even in their wins, this should be a quick series in favour of the Chinese side.

Betting: Correct Score 2:0 in favour of Keen Gaming at 1.68 odds via ArcaneBet.
