ESL One Birmingham Brings First Ever Dota 2 Major to UK

The second-to-the-last Major of the Pro Circuit and ESL One’s final event for the season, ESL One Birmingham is scheduled on May 23 to 27, featuring twelve Dota 2 teams from all over the world (6 direct invites, 6 qualifier teams) converging at the NEC Arena in Birmingham and fighting over a prize pool of $1 million USD and 1,500 Qualifying Points.

If there’s one key takeaway from the 2017-18 Pro Circuit, it’s that it has been the season of firsts. Countries that had yet to see big Dota 2 event got the privelege of finally hosting one; Poland with ESL One Katowice and Russia with the upcoming EPICENTER XL.

This time, it’s UK’s time with ESL One Birmingham.

The Stretch Run to TI8 Begins

As of the time of writing, Dota 2 fans will enjoy back to back action wtih at least one Pro Circuit event happening every week between now until PGL and Perfect World’s joint Major to end the 2017-18 Pro Circuit on June 3 to June 10. Including the recently announced ESL One Birhimgham, that’s a total of 10 Pro Circuit events, with five Majors.

If there’s ever a time for a team to try to play and nab a top four spot as many tournaments as they can, it’s now. As of the moment, at least five spots in the top eight of the season leaderboards are up for grabs; Virtus.Pro is already a lock to attend TI8, while it’d take a huge miracle for Team Secret and Team Liquid not to qualify given the amount of points they currently have.

Having said that, the stretch run for The International 8 has now officially begun. After the announcement of ESL One Birmingham, only three events of the 10 remaining have yet to be named.  But, then again, there’s a still chance we’ll see an event added to the schedule down the line .
