With the StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 2 nearing its conclusion, the EPICENTER Major 2019 teams is now officially set.
Ninjas in Pyjamas and Alliance, the top two teams from the final Minor of the 2018-19 Dota Pro Circuit will be joining the fourteen lineups to complete the EPICENTER Major 2019 teams, completing the tournament’s total team roster of 16.
By securing a top two finish at the StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 2, Ninjas in Pyjamas also booked their flight to Shanghai for The International 2019.
Currently, they have 2,570 DPC points, which is enough to mathematically guarantee their spot for TI9. This means that they could skip the EPICENTER Major 2019 already. Although, given just how important staying in mid-season form is, especially given the long break between the EPICENTER Major 2019 and The International 2019, there’s definitely a lot of benefits to attending the final Major of the 2018-19 Dota Pro Circuit.
EPICENTER Major 2019 Teams — Most Stacked Major Yet
Looking at the EPICENTER Major 2019 teams, you’d be forgiven for thinking that this is the most stacked Major yet.
Yes, the MDL Disneyland Paris Major 2019 treated us to a lot of wonderful games. Not to mention, ESL One Birmingham 2019, although not a Minor or Major, was filled with some of the best Dota 2 teams in the world as well. This includes the eventual winners, Team Secret.
But, the EPICENTER Major 2019 is different.
The stakes are higher, and teams have even more of an incentive to give their all. But, then again, you could argue that it SHOULD be the most stacked tournament fo the year.
The $1,000,000 USD tournament will conclude the 2018-19 Dota Pro Circuit. The tournament at the CSKA Arena in Moscow will help finalize the direct invites to The International 2019.
Eight teams playing in the tournament are already guaranteed a slot in the festivities in August. This leaves only four slots that the other eight teams of the tournament will be fighting for.
For teams such as OG and TNC Predator, a decent showing showing at the EPICENTER Major 2019 will guarantee their TI9 slots. Meanwhile, teams such as Infamous and Royal Never Give Up would need to outperform expectations and exit with atleast a top-six finish to make it to TI9 without having to go through the regional qualifiers. Finally, teams such as Gambit Esports, paiN Gaming, and Forward Gaming, are all one decent showing away from nabbing invitations as well.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the EPICENTER Major 2019 is that no top Dota 2 team skipped the event.
Virtus.Pro, Team Secret, and Vici Gaming, could all have used the extra rest. Instead, they will be at Moscow. There, they’ll be battling hard for the crown and for some extra prize money.
With that said, we can be guaranteed a smorgasbord of close games and tight series’ at the EPICENTER Major 2019.
Which of the EPICENTER Major 2019 teams are you excited to see the most play? Do you think we’ll see an upset run from one of the underdogs? Or will one of Virtus.Pro, Team Secret, and Vici Gaming, reign victorious once again? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
