DreamLeague S8 NA Qualifier – EG Are Headed for Sweden

Evil Geniuses drop just 1 map in the DreamLeague S8 NA Qualifier to clinch their spot in the 2nd Pro Circuit Major of the season.

Evil Geniuses will now join Newbee, Infamous and Team Secret in the ROG DreamLeague Season 8 LAN Finals in Sweden in December 1-3. This is set to be Evil Geniuses’ third Pro Circuit LAN appearance of the season and second qualifier win overall. They previously qualified and played in the ESL One Hamburg Major where they finished in 5th-6th place.

DreamLeague S8 NA Qualifier – EG Strut Their Stuff

Criticised for their uncharacteristically lackluster start to the season, Evil Geniuses showed at the DreamLeague S8 NA Qualifier that they’re much closer to figuring things out than most people realize.

Evil Geniuses seem to have found the right balance for their greedy tri-core lineup. They’ve also shown willingness to mix things up. Case in point, they’re now more open to having Syed Sumail ‘SumaiL‘ Hassan play as more of a playmaker. This is so as to give Artour ‘Arteezy‘ Babaev — and sometimes even Saahil ‘UNiVeRsE‘ Arora — more space to farm.

A good example of this is their series clincher against CompLexity Gaming in the Grand Finals of the DreamLeague S8 NA Qualifier.

Playing an atypical 4-protect-1 lineup, Evil Geniuses played around Arteezy and his Luna. Their decision initially looked iffy as CompLexity Gaming were firmly in the driver’s seat for much of the game. But, they stuck to their decision and a Butterfly pickup by Arteezy at the 29-minute mark proved the turning point.

Just two minutes later, Evil Geniuses wiped all of CompLexity Gaming and that was pretty much it; Arteezy and his buffed up Luna proved too big for CompLexity Gaming to handle.

Losing back-to-back team fights trying to defend their base at the 35-minute mark ultimately served as the final nail on the proverbial coffin for CompLexity Gaming.

This isn’t the first time that Evil Geniuses have looked strong in an online qualifier tournament. Lest we forget, they went undefeated at the ESL One Hamburg NA Qualifiers. However, they’re arguably a much better team this time around, with two Pro Circuit LAN appearances already under their belt.

The only question now is if Evil Geniuses will perform just as well in an actual LAN setting.

Evil Geniuses Roster
  • Artour ‘Arteezy‘ Babaev
  • Sumail ‘Suma1L‘ Hassan
  • Saahil ‘UNiVeRsE‘ Arora
  • Andreas ‘Cr1t-‘ Nielsen
