Mineski Round Out Direct Invites to UK Dota 2 Major

More than a month ahead of the tournament’s scheduled start, the direct invites for the first-ever UK Dota 2 Major, ESL One Birmingham 2018, is now complete.

Mineski were the last team to receive a direct invite to ESL One Birmingham 2018. This is a fitting reward for Mineski after their win at DAC 2018. The Southeast Asian powerhouse are now set to join the five other direct tournament invites: Virtus.Pro (CIS), Newbee (China), Evil Geniuses, (NA), Team Liquid (Europe), ViCi Gaming (China).

Of the six direct invites to the UK Dota 2 Major, only ViCi Gaming have yet to win a single Pro Circuit LAN this season.

The back-to-back DreamLeague champions are notably absent from the list of the direct invites to ESL One Birmingham. (Team Secret)

All of the direct invites deserve what they got. They’re all regional powerhouses who have proven themselves one way or another. However, it is still quite surprising not to find Team Secret among them.

Though Team Secret had a relatively bad showing at the 2018 Dota 2 Asia Championships, the back-to-back DreamLague champions remain one of the best Dota 2 teams this season and should still prime candidates to receive a direct invite to the remaining Pro Circuit LANs. That is, unless they declined, which is possible; the first-ever UK Dota 2 Major finds itself sandwiched in between an unnamed Major (May 14-20) and the Chinese Supermajor (June 3-10).

We’ll know for sure soon enough if ever we’ll see Team Secret try to qualify for ESL One Burmingham 2018 or not.

The ESL One Birmingham 2018 is the first ever UK Dota 2 Major. The 12-team tournament will run from May 23-27. The main event will be held at Arena Birmingham after a two-day closed doors Group Stage.

ESL One Birmingham 2018 will feature a prize pool of $1 million USD and 1,500 Qualifying Points.
