The Chongqing Major Playoffs Day 3: Betting Odds, Tips, Predictions - Esportsranks
The Chongqing Major Playoffs Day 3: Betting Odds, Tips, Predictions

The Chongqing Major Playoffs Day 3 will shift the focus away from the upper brackets of the event and into the lower brackets. There, eight teams will be fighting with their backs against the wall. The losers will be eliminated. Meanwhile, the winners will move on and get a chance to play in front of the live crowd on the 25th.

With such high stakes, you’d expect tomorrow’s matches to be closed. But, you’d be disappointed. Normally, lower bracket matchups don’t get as lopsided as they’re going to get tomorrow in the Chongqing Major Playoffs Day 3, and yet, that’s exactly what’s going to happen. By mere happenstance, the teams who survived the best-of-one games will be facing off against teams that normally have no business playing in the lower brackets.

Evil Geniuses, Team Liquid, Vici Gaming, and even Fnatic, are names that you wouldn’t really expect to be fighting to play another day this early on in a tournament. Unfortunately, that’s the stark reality that we’re facing right now, which just speaks to the quality of competition in the upper brackets.

So, without further delay, here are our picks for the Chongqing Major Playoffs Day 3.

The Chongqing Major Playoffs Day 3 Betting Predictions

Vici Gaming vs Chaos Esports Club

Chongqing Major Playoffs Day 3

Vici Gaming may have played below their usual standards against PSG.LGD, but don’t expect that to happen in their matchup against Chaos Esports Club. (ViCi Gaming)

Match Schedule: January 23, 2018 — 1000H SGT

Talent-wise, Chaos Esports Club doesn’t even come close to Vici Gaming. Sure, you could argue that talent doesn’t win you games, but having talented players make winning a lot easier and Vici Gaming is full of such players.

Save perhaps for Aliwi ‘w33‘ Omar, Chaos Esports Club doesn’t really have anyone who could outplay their opponents during the laning phase. Their best hope is to disrupt Vici Gaming’s game plan enough by being constantly aggressive. The bad news for them is that Vici Gaming are averaging the third-most kills per game this tournament and the least deaths, which means that Vici Gaming will have to be really off their game for them to have any chance of losing tomorrow.

Betting: Vici Gaming -1.5 on Spread Full Time at 1.76 odds. (10bet)

Evil Geniuses vs Thunder Predator

Chongqing Major Playoffs Day 3

Following a difficult series against Virtus.Pro in the upper brackets, Evil Geniuses get a bit of a breather as they look to eliminate Thunder Predator from contention. (Staladder)

Match Schedule: January 23, 2018 — 1330H SGT

Did you know that Evil Geniuses average the shortest games in wins throughout the entire tournament? If left to snowball across all three lanes, Evil Geniuses can end games quickly. This is evidenced by their average match time of 25 minutes and 18 seconds in wins. In comparison, the closest team is the now-eliminated Team Alliance at 28 minutes and 39 seconds. The rest average over 30 minutes in their wins.

That reason alone is enough to make a strong case for this series not only going the way of Evil Geniuses, but for the boys in blue to dispatch of Thunder Predator rather quickly.

Betting: Evil Geniuses -1.5 on Spread Full Time at 1.44 odds. (10bet)

Fnatic vs J.Storm

Chongqing Major Playoffs Day 3

After a painful loss at the hands of EHOME, Fnatic will now have to continue their journey in the lower brackets. (Fnatic Dota)

Match Schedule: January 23, 2018 — 1700H SGT

J.Storm takes too long to close out games and averages the most deaths of all teams in the tournament. That doesn’t bode well against a Fnatic squad who averages the fourth-most kills and has some of the greediest players in Dota 2.

The only way for J.Storm to win against tomorrow is if they magically find a way to learn how to close out games early overnight.

Betting: Fnatic -1.5 on Spread Full Time at 1.86 odds. (10bet)

Team Liquid vs TNC Predator

Chongqing Major Playoffs Day 3

Look to Kuro ‘KuroKy’ Salhehi Takhasomi to use their matchup against TNC Predator to start practicing some new playstyles and picks with shadow. (Starladder Dota 2)

Match Schedule: January 23, 2018 — 2030H SGT

This is perhaps the closest of all the matchups in the Chongqing Major Playoffs Day 3, and it’s not even remotely close.

Even with Chu ‘shadow‘ Zeyu playing as a stand-in, Team Liquid easily remain the better team. Besides, it’s not like TNC Predator have no stand-ins of their own. Lest we forget, Ryo ‘ryOyr‘ Hasegawa is currently playing in place of Carlo ‘Kuku‘ Palad.

Had this been a best-of-one, TNC Predator would have had a better chance. But, it’s not. It’s a best-of-three. To win, TNC Predator will have to cheese Team Liquid in a row. Either that, or shadow will have to force himself to play despite being reportedly in a bad condition due to food poisoning. Otherwise, TNC Predator will have no choice but to go home tomorrow empty-handed.

Considering that kind of odds, it should be easy to pick out which of these two Dota 2 teams are the safer bet.

Betting: Team Liquid to win at 1.47 odds. (10bet)
