The Chongqing Major Main Event Day 2: Betting Odds, Tips, Predictions

It’s the second day of the Chongqing Major main event tomorrow, and, well, what can we say?

As more and more matches are played, the Chongqing Major is starting to look like a repeat of the previous Major where Team Secret and Virtus.Pro just proved that they stand taller than just about every other team in the tournament. The two games they played against each other earlier today were simply unlike anything we’ve seen so far and could’ve easily gone either way.

We had pegged Team Liquid as the team to make it a trio but with Amer ‘Miracle-‘ Al-Barkawi out and Chu ‘shadow‘ Zeyu standing in, communication issues reared its ugly head and Team Liquid were forced to bow out with a disappointing yet still solid eighth-place finish.

This isn’t to say that the other teams don’t have a chance, though. EHOME, Evil Geniuses, and Fnatic, have all played well so far. The same goes for PSG.LGD. It’s just that, unless the other remaining teams show some significant improvement or get their shit together, or so to speak, we could be looking at another Grand Finals matchup between Team Secret and Virtus.Pro, and here’s to hoping that it goes all the way once again.

With that said, let us not delay any further and get right on with our picks for Day 2 of the Chongqing Major main event.

The Chongqing Major Main Event Day 2 Betting Predictions

EHOME vs Evil Geniuses

Chongqing Major Main Event

Although they dropped down to the lower brackets, EHOME could potentially end up finishing much higher than most people expected. (EHOME)

Match Schedule: January 26, 2018 (1200H SGT)

There’s no doubt that Evil Geniuses have one of the most talented rosters in the world, but sometimes, talent isn’t just enough. Looking at how they play, it’s clear that the boys in blue rely too much on their individual talent to win games. It works a lot of the time, and again, they owe it to their abilities as players. However, up against top-tier teams, we’ve seen Evil Geniuses’ playstyle get absolutely exposed by teams who are just as talented AND know how to play better as a team.

The verdict is still out on EHOME if they’re a top-tier team, and it’s not like they don’t have issues of their own as their two young cores often make too many mistakes, which is probably due to inexperience.

Either way, though, we’re going with EHOME here. Even if we’re not sure about their place in the grand scheme of things just yet, we know how EHOME plays.

Prone to getting caught out on their own as they split up across the map to farm every available lane, Evil Geniuses will need to make a drastic change in their playstyle if they want to prevent giving away too many kills. If that happens, they’re not playing at their best.

So long as EHOME bring their A game tomorrow, they should take this series quite handily.

Betting: EHOME to win vs Evil Geniuses at 2.00 odds. (10bet)

Fnatic vs PSG.LGD

Chongqing Major Main Event

Capable of single-handled taking over games, the duo of Lu ‘Maybe’ Yao and Xu ‘Fy’ Linsen should give Fnatic all sorts of problems tomorrow in their matchup against PSG.LGD. (PSG.LGD)

Match Schedule: January 26, 2018 (1530H SGT)

As predicted, Fnatic took advantage of a limping Team Liquid and ran away with it. Though it wasn’t that clean of a series, what matters is that they won, and now, they’re onto the Top 6, with Anucha ‘Jabz‘ Jirawong proving himself as a more capable captain the more games this Fnatic lineup plays.

Unfortunately, they’re up against PSG.LGD, who, last I checked, are the best Dota 2 team in China.

Fnatic struggled against their series against EHOME earlier in the upper brackets. Even if they did manage to take a single win quite convincingly, it was only when everything went right for them. But, as soon as their plans crumbled, they didn’t really know how to adjust mid-game, and that’s telling of how much Fnatic still have to work on as a team.On the other hand, PSG.LGD have had nearly a year of experience playing together, and have suffered the biggest heartbreak any Dota 2 team could have — a Game 5 loss to OG in the Grand Finals of The International 2018.

Fnatic clearly have potential as a team, but as it is, they still have a long way to go.

Betting: PSG.LGD to win at 1.39 odds. (10bet)
