China Dota2 Supermajor Playoffs Day 5: Odds, Picks, Analysis

The China Dota2 Supermajor Playoffs moves on to its penultimate day as the players will now play in front of a live audience at the Yuanshen Gymnasium in Shanghai for the weekend.

The understandably excited crowd will be treated to four exciting Dota 2 matches in Day 5 of the China Dota2 Supermajor Playoffs, the first of which certainly will not disappoint. The up-and-coming North American powerhouse OpTic Gaming will open the day against Virtus.Pro and will look to pull off a huge upset to sneak into the Top 8 and receive a direct invite to The International 2018. Meanwhile, ending the day is a heavyweight tilt between the reigning TI champions Team Liquid and the two-time Major champions PSG.LGD.

With so much Dota 2 to look forward to in Day 5 of the China Dota2 Supermajor Playoffs, it’s high time that we dive straight into our match predictions.

Virtus.Pro vs OpTic Gaming

China Dota2 Supermajor Playoffs

The performance of Neta ’33’ Shapira and Quinn ‘CCnC’ Callahan will dictate how their series against Virtus.Pro will go. (OpTic Gaming)

Match Schedule: June 9, 2018 (Saturday 10:00 CST)

We already saw what the result was when these two Dota 2 teams go head to head in the Grand Finals of ESL One Birmingham and it wasn’t pretty. OpTic Gaming looked like deer caught in the headlights as Virtus.Pro proceeded to steamroll them in a 3-0 sweep en route to winning their fourth Major title of the season.

Of course, we can’t exactly say for sure that the same thing is going to happen here. As dominant as Virtus.Pro may have been, OpTic Gaming aren’t just going to roll over and let a chance to receive a direct invite to The International 2018 slip away. They’re too good for that. Besides, if there’s one captain that can help his team recover and learn from such a lopsided loss, it’s Peter ‘ppd‘Dager, the same captain who helped Evil Geniuses win The International 2015.

We’re not saying that OpTic Gaming are a sure win here. However, given how much they have to lose and gain, they’re not exactly a bad bet either.

Betting: OpTic Gaming to win at 5.29 odds (GGbet)

Team Secret vs ViCi Gaming

China Dota2 Supermajor Playoffs

Zhang ‘Paparazi’ Chengjun has been one of the top performers of the tournament, posting an average KDA of 5.25 across 14 games. (ViCi Gaming)

Match Schedule: June 9, 2018 (Saturday 13:00 CST)

So much for Team Secret having Team Liquid’s number, eh?

Once again, Clement ‘Puppey‘ Ivanov drafted his team into a corner, resulting in a rather lopsided loss that sent them spiralling down to the brink of elimination in the lower brackets of the China Dota2 Supermajor Playoffs.

As a result, Team Secret now find themselves facing off against a resilient and talented ViCi Gaming squad who have swept them every time they’ve met this season, save for that one time when ViCi Gaming choked in the Grand Finals of the Captain’s Draft Minor.

Betting: ViCi Gaming to win at 2.1 odds (GGbet)

Team Liquid vs PSG.LGD

China Dota2 Supermajor Playoffs

Kuro ‘KuroKy’ Salehi Takhasomi will look to finally give Team Liquid their first Major title with a win here at the China Dota2 Supermajor. (Team Liquid)

Match Schedule: June 9, 2018 (Saturday 19:00 CST)

PSG.LGD have looked nigh unstoppable so far at the China Dota2 Supermajor Playoffs, with Xu ‘Fy‘ Linsen playing out of his mind on Rubick and Wisp. But, so have Team Liquid, who brought their A-game with them into the tournament as they have dropped only one game so far.

The last time these two Dota 2 teams met, PSG.LGD denied Team Liquid a chance to go for a three-peat, while also earning their first Major title, at EPICENTER XL. Now, the question is, can they do it again?

While Team Liquid can’t exactly be accused of slacking off this season — they’ve finished outside of the Top 4 only twice across 12 Pro Circuit LANs — there is such a thing as a higher gear and the reigning TI champions seem to have tapped into that as they aim to win their first Major title ever before they defend their crown in August.

Having said that, we’ve already made the mistake of betting against a top form Team Liquid earlier in Day 4 of the China Dota2 Supermajor Playoffs. We’re not about to make the same mistake twice in the same tournament.

Betting: Team Liquid to win at 2.3 odds (GGbet)
