China Dota 2 Supermajor Playoffs Day 4: Odds, Picks, Analysis

More than three days have passed and the battle at the China Dota 2 Supermajor Playoffs still rages on.

For its fourth day, the China Dota 2 Supermajor Playoffs will feature two matchups in the upper brackets that will determine which of teams will secure at least a top 3 finish, in addition to two more elimination matches in the lower brackets.

With the stakes never been higher for some of the remaining teams, it’s time that we take a look at tomorrow’s matchups and try to predict the outcome.

Team Liquid vs Team Secret

China Dota 2 Supermajor Playoffs

As long as Clement ‘Puppey’ Ivanov doesn’t draft Team Secret into a corner, they’ll have a legitimate shot at sending Team Liquid down into the lower brackets. (Perfect World)

Match Schedule: June 7, 2018 (Thursday 10:00 CST)

Did you know that in the seven times that these two teams have met in either a best-of-one or a best-of-three this season, Team Secret have gotten the best of Team Liquid five times?  This includes a 3-0 sweep in the Grand Finals of the ROG DreamLeague Major back in December. This is good for a 71% winning percentage against the reigning TI champions and one of the three best Dota 2 teams in the world.

So far in the tournament, both of these teams have found their groove. Team Secret with their elite execution paired with their willingness to draft off meta picks and Team Liquid finding the right way to best utilize Lasse Aukusti ‘MATUMBAMAN‘ Urpalainen other than having him play a sacrificial role. But, when it’s all said and done, our bets will be on Team Secret.

Team Secret are one of the few Dota 2 teams in the world that have the personnel capable of matching up against Team Liquid, with a captain in Clement ‘Puppey‘ Ivanov capable of outwitting Kuro ‘KuroKy‘ Salehi Takhasomi.

Betting: Team Secret to win at 2.6 odds (GGbet)

PSG.LGD vs Virtus.Pro

China Dota 2 Supermajor Playoffs

Virtus.Pro’s knack for offensive tipping could come back to haunt them against Lu ‘Maybe’ Yao. (Perfect World)

Match Schedule: June 7, 2018 (Thursday 13:00 CST)

There are very few Dota 2 teams in the world that boast a winning record against Virtus.Pro this season and PSG.LGD are one of them. In fact, Virtus.Pro have yet to take a series off of PSG.LGD. Although their past two matchups were pretty close, the fact remains that PSG.LGD have the right tools to prevent Virtus.Pro from winning the lanes and snowballing to a victory.

While we should expect yet another close series between the top two Dota 2 teams in the Pro Circuit tomorrow, it’s highly likely that we’ll see PSG.LGD prevailing in the end.

Betting: PSG.LGD to win at 2.18 odds (GGbet)

OpTic Gaming vs TNC Pro Team

China Dota 2 Supermajor Playoffs

Because of their second-place finish at ESL One Birmingham 2018, OpTic Gaming are now just two series wins away from securing a direct invite to TI8. (OpTic Gaming)

Match Schedule: June 7, 2018 (Thursday 16:00 CST)

OpTic Gaming have done well to make it all the way here, and they’re now just two series wins away from securing at least a Top 4 finish now that VGJ.Thunder are already out of the tournament. But, they can’t just rest easy yet. Although OpTic Gaming will be wise to keep a close eye on PSG.LGD and Virtus.Pro, as they’ll have to go through either one of these teams to get at least a Top 4 finish, they shouldn’t take TNC Pro Team lightly.

At their best, TNC Pro Team are “giant slayers” known for taking down the likes of Virtus.Pro, Team Liquid, and even PSG.LGD. At their worst, they’re a team whose obvious lack of a seasoned captain shows as Carlo ‘Kuku‘ Palad tries to adjust to a life leading his team from the support position. The latter is where OpTic Gaming have a significant advantage over TNC Pro Team, thanks to the experience Peter ‘ppd‘ Dager brings to the table.

So long as OpTic Gaming play to win and execute their strategies, all the while making sure that Quinn ‘CC&C‘ Callahan doesn’t tilt, they will walk away from Day 4 of the China Dota 2 Supermajor Playoffs with their TI hopes still alive here. If not, then we’re looking at yet another underdog in TNC Pro Team looking to secure at least a second-place finish for their own TI invite.

Betting: OpTic Gaming to win at 1.59 odds (ArcaneBet)

ViCi Gaming vs Newbee

China Dota 2 Supermajor Playoffs

After their last-place finish at ESL One Birmingham, ViCi Gaming are now poised to make a deep run at the China Dota 2 Supermajor Playoffs. (ViCi Gaming)

Match Schedule: June 7, 2018 (Thursday 19:00 CST)

ViCi Gaming and Newbee are two of the most inconsistent Dota 2 teams in the world. However, when it comes to versatility, ViCi Gaming have a significant edge over Newbee. Although they both have a tendency to fall for comfort picks, ViCi Gaming have, at least, shown the willingness to experiment with picks in the past.

This willingness to think out of the box makes ViCi Gaming a particularly bad matchup for Newbee, especially if their signature heroes, Disruptor and Naga Siren, get banned out immediately.

Betting: ViCi Gaming to win at 1.89 odds (ArcaneBet)

Which Dota 2 teams do you think will emerge victorious on Day 4 of the China Dota 2 Supermajor Playoffs? Will OpTic Gaming be able to keep their TI hopes alive? Or will TNC Pro Team be the ones to inch closer to seeing theirs materialize? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
