Aui_2000 Officially Brought In As Fnatic Team Coach

Kurtis ‘Aui_2000‘ Ling is no longer a free agent after he was officially announced as the Fnatic team coach.

Fnatic made the announcement themselves on their website. This comes nearly a month after bringing Aui_2000 aboard to coach Fnatic at ESL One Birmingham 2018.

Aui_2000’s only prior experience as a coach prior to joining Fnatic was with Team Secret back in 2016. Although the team built some serious momentum by qualifying for TI6 via the open qualifiers, the star-studded squad led by Clement ‘Puppey‘ Ivanov fall well short of expectations, finishing the tournament in 13th-16th place.

The former TI winner will now coach two of his longtime teammates, Jacky ‘EternaLEnVy’ Mao and Johan ‘pieliedie’ Åström. (Fnatic)

Aui_2000 was inactive earlier this season following Cloud9’s short run at The International 2017. In his return, he teamed up with David ‘Moonmeander‘ Tan to form Animal Planet and played in North America.

Animal Planet clicked immediately and qualified for the GESC Indonesia Dota 2 Minor. As a result of qualifying for a Pro Circuit LAN and making deep runs in other tournament qualifiers, the team soon found a sponsor in Iceberg Esports. However, this did not last long due to financial issues.

After trying and failing again with Animal Planet and Digital Chaos, Aui_2000 remained relatively quiet about his plans going forward. Even so, many expected him to try and give the TI8 qualifiers another go. Instead, Aui_2000 chose to move to Southeast Asia to help out his Cloud9 buddies, as well as a former teammate with Evil Geniuses, Saahil ‘UniVeRsE‘ Arora, as the Fnatic team coach.

As a TI winner and longtime veteran, Aui_2000 brings with him a wealth of experience and a winner’s mentality. Given his rapport with 4 out of 5 of his team’s members — Aui_2000 has yet to play with Abed ‘Abed‘ Yusop in his career — he’ll have no problem meshing with the rest of the team.

Aui_2000 and Fnatic’s journey to The International 2018 starts tomorrow with the regional qualifiers.

What kind of impact do you think Aui_2000 will have as the Fnatic team coach? Do you think he’ll be able to teach DJ the nuances of playing techies in a competitive setting? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
